Mitt and Ann's hired help - A "scandal" waiting to happen?

IRS forms released Tuesday by Mitt Romney's presidential campaign show that despite reporting income of $21.7 million, the couple paid only $20,603 in taxable wages for household help in 2010. This figure was divided among four women: Rosania Costa ($4,808), Kelli Harrison ($8,667), Susan Moore ($2,238) and Valerie Cravens Anae ($4,890).

According to a number of Boston-based domestic staffing agencies, the salary range for a housekeeper is between $20 and $30 an hour, which adds up to an annual salary of $40,000 to $50,000 based on forty-hour weeks and two weeks of paid vacation a year.

But this number is only for one house, and the Romneys have three houses -- a 2,000 sq. ft. townhouse in Belmont, Mass., a 5,400 sq. ft. lake house on 11 acres in Wolfeboro, N.H., and a beach house in La Jolla, Calif., that is undergoing renovations to double its size.

Mitt Romney's Maids' Salary Raises Questions

Ann Romney's "Childhood Nanny" Dishes On Privileged Upbringing

The Boston Globe reported June 27, 2007, "Mitt eschewed the trappings of wealth. The family had no cook or full-time maid." An anonymous source close to the Romneys told the International Business Times Thursday, "No nannies." While the Romneys financial disclosure forms show they had four housekeepers in 2010, the women weren't paid nearly enough to be regular laundresses. Some of the wages paid were for personal-assistant-type chores, instead of washing dishes.

The Other War on Moms: No Nanny, No Maid at the Romney Home

Just so I understand this, here is a woman with an Olympic Dressage horse who has gardeners and three enormous houses. She also has had two terrible diseases and yet, she raised 5 boys and cleaned three enormous houses and she's worth hundreds of millions of dollars? So much in fact, even they don't seem to know how much they are worth.

Yet, she did it all with virtually no help????? No maids? No nanny's? No one doing laundry?

Does anyone believe this? Is this why Romney doesn't want his tax returns made public?

Ann Romney didn't clean all that by herself. She had Mitt and 5 boys. We all know how boys LOVE to clean. And they are going to tear down one of their houses and double the size because she really like to clean. No really!

Since the dawn of history the Negro has owned the continent of Africa – rich beyond the dream of poet’s fancy, crunching acres of diamonds beneath his bare black feet and yet he never picked one up from the dust until a white man showed to him its glittering light.

His land swarmed with powerful and docile animals, yet he never dreamed a harness, cart, or sled.

A hunter by necessity, he never made an axe, spear, or arrowhead worth preserving beyond the moment of its use. He lived as an ox, content to graze for an hour.

In a land of stone and timber he never sawed a foot of lumber, carved a block, or built a house save of broken sticks and mud.

With league on league of ocean strand and miles of inland seas, for four thousand years he watched their surface ripple under the wind, heard the thunder of the surf on his beach, the howl of the storm over his head, gazed on the dim blue horizon calling him to worlds that lie beyond, and yet he never dreamed a sail.” — Charles Darwin

Who the fuck wouldn't want to stay home?:eusa_silenced:

As long as I didn't have to clean them.

your article simply proves what the Romney's have said... they did not have any full time help.

Big hairy deal.

I hate to break this to you, Deanie but when CNN interviewed the Romney's up in New Hampshire before the Republican National Convention...the interviewer was struck by the fact that there WASN'T any "household staff". The Romney's answer to that was that they preferred doing things themselves.

Another Deanie thread going down in flames...

Have you ever heard of maid service? They come in and spend an hour or two cleaning your house. I used to have it once a week, and I'm no millionaire. I know wealthy people who have it once a day, but even at that rate, it wouldn't cost $40K a year. $4k - $8K is in the ball park.

That was Chris Wallace. I saw that interview. The Romneys said that they did not ever have household help even when the boys were little because they needed to learn how to do things for themselves. Even Mitt Romney irons his own shirts.

The idea that someone rich is automatically going to be such a slob that they need a full time entire staff to pick up after them is an idea held by a slob! Once in a whle, someone comes in and dusts the unused rooms.

So let's recap what we've learned in this string!

First of all we've learned that Mitt Romney has been extremely successful as a businessman and that he has some very nice houses.

We've also learned that Mitt Romney and his wife aren't like most really rich people because they don't have an entourage of household staff taking care of them.

Anything else you'd like to bring up in this "scandal"?

OK, little progressives...time to head back to the Huffington Post and see what the next stupid string is that they want you to post!!! Have fun...

The scandal is that the Romneys have a very small deduction for household help. The evidence, from those that have been to the Romney home, is that they don't have household help. Rich people, according to democrats, have a lot of household help. Therefore the Romneys have to be lying. That's the scandal.

Funny how the left wing nuts will criticize if the Romney's frivolously spend their money and then whine if they don't.

They keep looking and they keep exposing their ignorance.
