Minority Leader Pelosi?

Frankly if I were a democrat I would want a new face in congress to be associated with the party so that voters would see some sort of positive move. However your most likely correct , she has the votes or she would not have announced it.

She should step down, resign, and go report to prison for collaborating with War Criminals.

What I have found interesting is the reaction from the leadership below her. I have to wonder if they are all that excited to have her back as the minority leader. I did hear that she polls around 8 to 10% with Ind. voters and it would seem that if the democrats do go ahead and put her back in the leadership position they are handing the Republicans a gift.

She was probably the most successful and effective Speaker in the past 50 years. Not allowing her to be the Minority leader would be a slap in the face of success.

Battle lines are emerging in the House Democratic Caucus over Speaker Nancy Pelosi's (D-Calif.) possible bid to stay on as the minority leader.

Liberal Democrats are mobilizing in support of Pelosi remaining at the head of the party in the 112th Congress, while some centrists said she should step aside in the wake of the party's loss of around 60 House seats in Tuesday's election.

Dems split over Pelosi bid for minority leader - TheHill.com

As a Republican I remain hopeful that the democrats do keep her on as minority leader, however that would be ill advised from a political point of view as she will most likely cause the democrats more issues in 2012. I did hear that she has annouced her desire to run this morning so it should be interesting.

She will be the minority leader. When she says she has a vote count, they stay counted.

She's finally learning to talk about her accomplishments and others are as well. Time to stop spinning about Pelosi. She freaking knows how to run the House.

If the Democrats do not stand beside, behind and in front of Nancy Pelosi after she fought so hard for the Democrats platform, and succeeded, those Democrats that abandon her are the biggest punks in the world, and their wives should worry if a mugger came upon them that she would have to fight the mugger herself and then run real hard to catch up with him, and to have a Republican tell me what to do is unimaginable.

If that happens, one of us gun-toting, whacko right-fringe redneck racists will set our bible down, shoot the assailant, and save her democrat (yet still American) ass.

Pelosi as Minority Speaker has a very nice ring to it.

And it will be handing us 2012 on a golden platter, as it will be the legislative equivalent of "We don't have a fucking clue why you're all so upset."

As I indicated Sarah, I have no doubt at all that she has the votes to become speaker otherwise she would not have announced it. However, you do realize, like it or not that her being back in a leadership position places a face on the democratic party that is not very well liked by most of the American public. Further, many in the party see her as being responsible for the worst loss in the last half century for the party. All I am am saying is that by placing her back in that position is rather like placing the CEO of ENRON in charge of the economy because he was a great guy. All you will accomplish is give the other side a face and deflect whatever issues that may arise in the house. As for her accomplishments, while they may be seen that way by a few within the democratic party, its obvious from this last election they were not shared by a vast majority of the voters.

doesn't matter, what you see here is the same myopia that got them that shellacking a few days ago.

Its the message, he she didn't explain it well enough or break it down into small enough pieces so the rubes ( in say ohio, penn, Indiana, iowa who voted FOR Obama) who now voted dems out could understand their 'accomplishments'.......and they had ample warning.

Christie, Corzine then Brown....nope. its all in, all or nothing and when it goes awry its never their fault as in the prgms they wish to impose are not what the balance of the country wants, its always a translation problem.

What it is , is, a pathological denial and refusal to self critique honestly. So it goes.

There's a reason she isn't liked by republicans and that is because she is effective. It's John Boehner's face everyone is watching now. She will be his opposition. That is a lot more fun and easier. Just rail against everything that comes out of his mouth and communicate his ignorance to the American people.

Sarah quite honestly I don't think it's just Republicans that share that sentiment especially when she has a 8% approval rating among Independents and an overall rating of around 29% depending on who you believe. So would well imagine that given those numbers that the makeup is more than just Republicans especially when you consider that even some Democrats have called for her openly to not run. No matter, as I said earlier, her re-election will do nothing but give the Republican party a gift and as I had suggested earlier and as some have pointed out here, perhaps it would be better to appoint someone that is not associated with the largest loss in the last half century.

Pelosi effective? How many times did she have the votes before she didn't?

Her inability to focus on jobs and shoving Obamacare down the nation's throat are what led to the Republican House takeover. I actually think Democrats are smarter then that at this point. Mostly what I would expect from far left whackjobs. That number is disconnected and no longer in service.

I don't think she is the polarizing force for the electorate. Even after she had been speaker for two years, most voters still thought the Republicans ran the place.

She did a very good job as minority leader, got her folks on top when most people thought it impossible, got the agenda passed, made the machine work.

People were not voting against her. I doubt many people know who she is. I think it wrong to blame her for 0bama's ineptitude.

BTW, is Sarah going to change her avi slogan soon?

there is a reason why congress has an approval of 20% she (and yes, like the reps are seen as part of the problem) BUT she was the leader. She is famous, she, like reid were and are seen as part of the problem not the solution. Now, you don't think that the reps ability to make what just passed as a nationalization of what normally is local elections and issues politics was advantageous for them?

She is like Delay or Gingrich seen as reason why we are not doing well or what is wrong with the process and what goes on in DC....2012 will see even more people at the polls, as its a national election, this will not get them anywhere, the battle is for the middle and she has helped lose it.

If you believe that democrats just need to act more like republicans and people might accidentally vote for them thinking they're republicans, if that's your take on where democrats are right now, nancy pelosi's response to this dionne will probably upset you.

If you believe democrats need to get in touch with their inner pugilist, believe democrats are short of one thing and that is spine, this will probably excite you.

dionne again, asks, why did the republicans attack you so fiercelyancy pelosi?

because I'm effective it's why they had to do it.

They had to put a stop to me because we were effective in passing health care reform which the health insurance industry wanted to stop.

Wall street reform, which wall street wanted to stop.

Student loans for taking the money out of the banks and gefing it back to the taxpayer " nancy pelosi, why are you running for house my torty leader given how much the other side hates you?

She says because they hate me because I'm good at this and that's why I should be doing it.

Whatever you think of nancy pelosi's politics or policy positions she's been one of the most effective house speakers in history.

Most of the most effective house speakers in history held that job for a very long time which makes sense because power an the experience necessary to use it well tend to accumulate over time.

Nancy pelosi on the other hand was only speaker for four years.

In that time her list of legislative accomplishments, the volume of things she got passed through the house rivals anyone in american political history.

Under nancy pelosi's leadership we got the lilly ledbetter fair pay act for women, got credit card reform, got student loan reform, we got the stimulus, we got wall street reform.

And a new consumer watch dog agency.

We got cash for clunkers, got the children's health insurance expansion, the saving of the auto industry, expanded benefits or veterans, a major land conservation bill, new hate crimes law.

25 Separate tax laws and health reform.

Coverage for 32 million uninsured americans.

The thing is, you've heard that list before.

That's the what's been accomplished in the obama era list because those became law.

The biggest list is what nancy pelosi was responsible for.

What nancy pelosi was responsible for and got passed through her house of congress.

Stuff that did make it through what nancy pelosi was responsible for but did make it through the senate.

The current count according to the house records is 420 pieces of legislation.

That's how productive nancy pelosi has been as speaker.

I don't know whats up with that bar stool crack.:eusa_eh:

as to maddow and her litany of Pelosi' accomplishments, well your party just unwound and lost the mid west to say nothing of whats to be come of many of those states after redistricting etc.

this rhetoric flys in the face of reality which is, the dems went down to a generational defeat......from where I sit legislation that results in bipartisan sppt and greater ability to legislate and solidify gains is what gauges achievement, frankly it appears to me your mind is closed. You won battles and lost the war at the very least a Pyrrhic victory....bravo.....

Making more Americans dependent on shrinking working Americans and bringing us to the brink of socialism are not things to be proud of. Every Speaker, shamed as Nancy Pelosi was in this election cycle, has retired. The accomplishment is ending the progressive reforms that are destroying the nation.

Maybe you can wrap your head around this concept. Democrats accomplished legislation for the American People. All Republicans did was obstruct and say no.

Democrats failed to communicate those accomplishments successfully. Maybe they'll do better now and all eyes will be on what Boehner is doing.

Oh, Boehner never met a Happy Hour he didn't like. Everyone knows that.

From where i sit, the legislation that results in positive outcomes for Americans, improves our lives or makes the American dream accessible to more people is what gauges achievement. I don't care if 1% of the population supports it if it moves us forward.

And that might explain why you don't see the overwhelming success of Pelosi. She made tough decisions, forced through legislation that improved lives despite opposition, and worried little about how it impacted her own popularity.
