WASHINGTON - Minorities make up nearly half the children born in the U.S., part of a historic trend in which minorities are expected to become the U.S. majority over the next 40 years.

In fact, demographers say this year could be the "tipping point" when the number of babies born to minorities outnumbers that of babies born to whites.

The numbers are growing because immigration to the U.S. has boosted the number of Hispanic women in their prime childbearing years.

Hispanic is an ethinicity NOT A RACE. Hispanics can be of ANY RACE.

There is no reason to reclassify hispanics as white since half the hispanics in this county classify themselves as white.

Black and Indian are racial classifications. Blacks can be of different ethnic groups and so can every other race.

Actually, blacks and Indians are the same race as the rest of us humans.

As for ethnic groups, according to Merriam-Webster, the definition of ethnic is:

2 a : of or relating to large groups of people classed according to common racial, national, tribal, religious, linguistic, or cultural origin or background <ethnic minorities> <ethnic enclaves>

Hispanics can belong to one or more ethnic groups...they can be white, Hispanic and American all at the same time. Or black, Hispanic and Cuban...etc.

IMO no one in this country is a MINORITY!! When we have to deal with a disaster like a tornado or very severe snowstorm where the power is cut off, we as people of this GREAT COUNTRY come to the aid of each other no matter the color, ethnic background,etc. of that person. We just are the type of people who were taught to take care of each other. Even Mr. Joyce and 52nd street would go to the aid of a person no matter what ethnic background to help aid that person in need. At least I hope they would??
