Minnoesta Governor Diverts Money From "Support Our Troops" to Staffer

Was the money from the sale of "Support Our Troops." license plates to be used for the benefit of U.S. Servicemen and Women or was it to be used to pay the the partial salary of an appointee to the governor's office?

What does "Support Our Troops" mean? Does it mean "Support Our Troops" or does it mean "Pay The Salary of a Bureaucrat"?

The money raised from the sales of these plates was meant for the purposes of helping U.S. Military Personnel, U.S. Veteran's and their families, NOT paying the salary of one of Pawlenty's cronnies because there was not enough money in the budget to do so.

This was money meant to help those who have served their country, not some chair warming buddy Tim.

Nice to know Repuglicans holding to their usual double standard. Do as we say, but not as we do.

Go figure, more liberals cherry picking the information they want to use and ignoring the FACTS.

Quotes from the article linked.

"Michael Pugliese, deputy commissioner of the Department of Veterans Affairs......."

"It was definitely a good return on our investment, and I would do it again," said Pugliese, who dismissed the criticism as cynical politics."

Looks to me like it was the Department of Veterans Affairs' decision to use this money the way it was used and not Governor Pawlenty.

Rick

Was the money to be used to pay Pawlenty's staff, or support the vets? Nice double standard.

if it were a dem

No, your wrong. Stealing money from vet's (rick has no problem with it all) is just plain wrong regardless of the party affiliation of the person who does the stealing.

Pawlenty has been a big time flag waving American, supporting the war, talks about supporting the vets and then does this.

When a person, who at one time might have been considered to be a Presidential Nominee is caught stealing money from vets, it's not the party of the person that matters, it matters that the person has been caught.

The money was given to the Department of Veteran Affairs, what they did with it was their business. I guess they decided that it should be spent in this way. The problem is that you are saying that Pawlenty did this when in fact he had nothing to do with it. The Department of Veteran Affairs did it.

Did you even read the article? The money was given to the Department of Veteran Affairs, exactly where it was supposed to go. They then decided where it was best spent. Sorry if you can't comprehend that, but it is the facts and truth, no matter how hard you try to twist it.

If shown to be guilty of what he's accused of... punish them like any other political scammer or criminal... it don't matter if they are REP, DEM, IND, CON, GRE, LIB, or whatever... corruption and crime is corruption and crime

However... we know that the wingers we see on this board, all too frequently, do indeed twist and "cherry pick" the info to fit the story THEY wish to tell.. and not inherently the whole or true story

Minnoesta Governor and Repuglican Presidential hopeful Tim Pawlenty has been caught funneling funds from a "Support Our Troops" licence plate fund to support an appointee of his office.

Lee Buckley received funds from the "Support Our Troops" Licence Plate Funds. The money from those plates was supposed to have gone to support the families of service members.

Minnoesta Law Makers have ordred the funds returned.

Ah Yes, another Repug who loves being photographed supporting our troops, and decides to fuck our troops instead.

From page 2 of the linked article....."Brian McClung, a spokesman for Pawlenty's office, said the Department of Veterans Affairs made the decision to use money from the plates to fund a portion of Buckley's salary."

Looks like the Department of Veterans Affairs, where the money was going, decided that they wanted the money to be spent exactly the way it was.

Rick

Looks like Pawlenty isn't guilty of any wrong-doing.

He doesn't get off that easy. The head of the Department of Veterans affairs works for Pawlenty. In addition, the governor signed an appropriations bill with this money in it designating it's collection and it's use. And the more I check on this, the more Pawlenty's explanation stinks.

It seems that the MN legislature has a problem with how Pawlenty pays for some of his staff.

Why should VA money pay for the govs staff?

It shouldn't the money from the sale of these license plates was specifically for the benefit of veteran's and their families.

But this is not exactly the first time Timmy has played fast and loose with State Tax Dollars, there is a suit pending in the Minnesota State Supreme Court that involves Timmy and tax money and his version of creative book keeping.

Once again, did you read the article? It plainly says why they felt it was a good investment for the Department of Veteran Affairs.

Rick

Yes Rick, I did read the article. The monies from the sale of the license plates WAS TO BE USED FOR VETERAN'S AND THEIR FAMILIES, NOT FUND POSITIONS FILLED BY APPOINTEE'S.
