Minimum Wage

OMG!! Toro!!! Not to change the subject, but that is quite the piccy you have there!

If people could make more in a minimum wage than collecting welfare, I would think the economy would greatly improve!!

Why? There are still more people than there are jobs.

The empirical evidence on the minimum wage is mixed. There are some studies which conclude that it decreases employment and there are others which conclude it increases employment.

The studies purporting to show no change suffer from "survivor bias." They cannot go back and survey those businesses that shut because wage costs made their businesses unprofitable.
In any case, it is basic econ 101 that suggests raising the price of something artificially will reduce demand. When was the last time you saw an usher in a movie theater?

Like Bobby Jindal?

Exactly four of Louisiana's governors since 1900 have been Republicans. As opposed to 27 Democrats.
But we already knew you were too stupid to count, much less read.

He's been Governor now for almost three years and yet Louisiana is still among the poorest states in the country. What the fuck's he waiting for?

Same as the rest of us. He's waiting to see which industry is next to be either nationalized or shut down by the Big 0.

Luckily, we have the Big 0 working to correct this with the Failed Stimulus and the whole adminstration focused on it like a laser beam. Pretty soon there will be plenty of jobs.

As a Born Again Liberal, I can say this about that. We need the minimum wage to protect the oppressed American Worker. Our laborers need to Unite in global action to set the minimum wage to $20 or more an hour.

If you can't afford to pay the minimum wage, then you shouldn't be in business in the first place. You are not qualified to be an employer.

There is NO INALEINABLE RIGHT TO BUSINESS!

The minimum wage should be indexed against the cost of living in the area.

oh..

Sounds like every OTHER economic study.

Yea because Katrina didn't have anything to do with that, huh? Because years of the corrupt and piss poor management of its biggest city New Orleans could get turned around overnight. Come on know Jindal isn't Jesus (although he still does excorism)!

Yeah right. Boost them up to $8 an hour. A thriving middle class with brand new tents !

Right! Oregon's minimum wage is $8.50 more or less, and has a 10.6% unemployment rate.

Why would anyone assume that the minimum wage has any correlation with the unemployment rate?

Why would anyone assume the price of something will influence the supply and demand for that thing?
Is that what you are asking? Really?

So people shouldn't have jobs. Is that what you are saying?

So if the minimum wage in an area in indexed to $0.05, would you be cool with that?

And just think of all the people a business could hire at $0.05 an hour.

realy? How many people will work here for 5 cents an hour when welfare pays far more than that?

Imagine on the reverse in an area like Beverly Hills where the McDonald's worker makes $150 an hour!

The 90210 kids would scoff at $150 an hour.

I wonder, does a Big Mac cost the same in Beverly Hills as it does in Bumfuck Louisiana?
