My sister bought me a subscription to newsweek, and his column was my favorite part of the magazine.

He was a brilliant writer, and he was lots of fun to listen to.

His wife is from Portland. The did a joint memoir that was a bit of a thrill because of the stories Mrs Friedman told about her family.
