RIP CURRENTS: THERE IS A HIGH RISK OF RIP CURRENTS ALONG THE
ATLANTIC AND COLLIER COUNTY BEACHES. A HIGH SURF ADVISORY IS IN
EFFECT FOR THE ATLANTIC COAST DUE TO LARGE SWELLS FROM SANDY. LARGE
BREAKING WAVES OF 10 FEET OR HIGHER WILL AFFECT THE ATLANTIC
BEACHES. MAJOR BEACH EROSION WILL ALSO CONTINUE.

WIND: HAZARDOUS MARINE CONDITIONS WILL CONTINUE WITH PREVAILING
WINDS AT 20 TO 25 KNOTS ALONG WITH HIGHER GUSTS.

WAVES: SEAS OF 11 TO 17 FEET WILL CONTINUE ACROSS THE ATLANTIC
WATERS AND UP TO 10 FEET ACROSS THE OFFSHORE GULF WATERS.

FLOODING: ELEVATED WATER LEVELS AND HIGH WAVES WILL LEAD TO SEA

Forecasters said Sandy has the ingredients to transform into a "super storm" as it merges with an Arctic jet stream, which could make the storm unlike anything seen over the eastern United States in decades.

"We're looking at impact of greater than 50 to 60 million people," said Louis Uccellini, head of environmental prediction for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

We have 50 to 60 million citizens in harms way. That is about about 1/5 of this nations citizenry. Citizens of all political views, faiths, colors, and economic status. Those of whatever view that wish to make political points with this storm at this point are demonstrating that they do not understand what survival requires. Everybody is going to be in this together, and there will be some bad surprises, and however badly you disagree with your neighbor, he may be the person that will have to give you shelter, or the other way around.

This is a survival event for many, and it transcends temporary political views.

Verizon is warning of possible problems as this happens. I would assume the other carriers could have problems as well. Do have available a battery operated radio so you can get updates if you don't have a generator. And even if you do services could still go out for cable, satellite, etc.
And have extra batteries.
