Is current or past military service (of ones self or ones family) the only indicator of patriotism?

Should lack of military service (personally) disqualify someone from holding public office?

Is it fair to criticize Romney for seeking the Presidency when neither he nor his children ever served in the military, and yet NOT criticize Obama, who never served in the military?

Discuss.

Partisan hacks. It's the basis of this thread...

he was of age during a time when we drafted.

He used his religion to keep from fighting while many poor kids died for their country under this draft.

You bet it matters

Having never volunteered for the military (or drafted) should not be an issue whatsoever as it pertains to politics.

However, one who criticizes the military AT ANY TIME during their adult life should be considered inelligble to be Commander in Chief...

Those brave men and women need a CiC that believes in them......they need to know they are serving under one who respects them....it is for their own safety.

Hell you fucks took a rich kid who fought and DIDNT avoid the draft and then recieved some of the highest honors this country gives a soldier and TRASHED his service.

guess who wins the asshold award in that debate.

YOU GUYS

Ahhhh. Hypocrisy at its finest.

Pick on his kids not serving since the parallel of Obama not serving would not be so obvious.

I wonder how many people who are making this faux smear have ever served their country which has given them so much?

that is the topic.

Military service and what it means to a candidate.

On your side it means only what they can milk out of it

You are clueless.

Romney went to France.

And he supported this country's invasion of Vietnam..and the draft.

No.

It can be a plus, but shouldn't be a negative.

No.

No. If a person is going to go that route, it is kind of hypocritical.

What's to discuss?

Everyone should just agree with me. :eusa_angel:

John Kerry is a war hero.

The right trashed his service for cheap political gain.

does military service, or the lack thereof, disqualify someone from public office?

Its a good thing to have depending on the service of the person and the character of that person, if they live by the same values they were required to live by while in uniform and bring that to the plate as a politician its a good thing.
