Republicans hate the Middle Class and love the Middle Class - it is a classic example of ambivalence.

Republicans know Middle Class Americans are workers whose wealth is a product of their personal toil, something Republicans admire. They also know Middle Class Americans pay taxes and demand results from pols they support by their votes. This they hate, for pols in general, and Republican pols in particular, love the wealthy and powerful (for in them they see their personal future) and it pisses them off to be held accountable by the hoi polloi, Middle Cloass voters.

Held accountable they will be come Novemeber 2012; it does not excape those of us in the middle class that the Republcian Party represents only the very wealthy and patronize all other Americans.

Not likely. It will need to get much worse before the middle class turns its back on the Republicans. Conservatives are still winning the battle for the middle class, but I do think that will change in the next ten years.

The right doesn’t ‘hate’ the middle class per se, but they see its erosion as a natural consequence in the context of Social Darwinism. And needless to say, there’ll be no help from the government as that would conflict with conservative dogma: the strong survive, the weak perish.

This is essentially true, as the wealthy represent a de facto ‘ruling class,’ a Patrician order that merits government benevolence by virtue of their success, they are ‘deserving.’

how many retarteddimocratlyingratfinks have you heard say "hostage" in the last two days???

if it didn't happen during the 90's what makes you think it will happen now...and take a hint, a huge portion of the nanny state class is buttressed by that very middle class despite the dems attempts to make them part of the nanny class....

and at the end of the day the whole issue is, the nanny state IS broke and will go belly up despite any increase in the debt ceiling IF we don't change course.....

I don't think they hate the middle class...they are just afraid that the US is in permament decline, and feel like all the bending over backwards to help minorities, immigrants, and peope who need a union to own a house, are something "they" can no longer afford. It's not their fault...conservative media has told them it's okay to think Christian Republicans are the only people who pay taxes

Threads like this just need to be deleted.

Can someone post the top 50 wealthiest people in congress? Dems seems to pull their fair share.

Here you go. It won't matter to folks like WC though.

You know what's interesting?...of the top three Democrats...Kerry and Harmon aren't technically rich...their spouses are. And Rockefeller...inherited it all.

I have no problem with anyone having tons of money. I do get tired of condescending hypocritical pricks telling me that I need to give more.

Teachers, police officers, firefighters, EMT's, Union Workers are all Middle Class, the Republican Party has turned their back on all of them.

The poor get welfare during all economic conditions, the rich cut bond coupons. The middle class is a more immediate indicator of the overall health of a country.

They've declined because of the reasons the country's declined:

- The failure of the government schools
- The healthcare system screwed up by the actions of government
- The emergence of new strong international competition
- The illegal alien invasion
- "Affirmative action"
- Gigantic government spending and debt
- The growth of statism
- The destruction of the nuclear family by feminism
