The land, which borders 12th and San Marcos avenues, encompasses 21 lots in an area known as Hawk Hill. With Tuesday's vote by the Board of Supervisors, the city will appraise more of the area and then open negotiations with owners of the lots. Buying the land could take place within several months.

Excessive taxation? Uncontrolled spending? Taxes are at their lowest levels in 60 years and federal spending decreased from 2009 to 2010.

Where are you getting your news from?

And we are still paying the government 1/3 of our time, not including the interest on all the debt they are taking out. That isn't sustainable long term.

When the 16th amendment was passed the people were promised taxes would never go above 5%.

You don't get stuff for free. 5% is about as close as you can get to "free". Do you practice? Or does dumb come that easy to you?

I don't get it. Most people loath the super rich, and yet they sit around glued to FOX and vote to keep giving them tax breaks and favors. All the while, the buy the same old line of "they are the ones creating jobs" from the GOP. Guess what....THEY ARE SITTING ON THEIR TRILLIANS NOT CREATING JOBS.

I'm sure it's just coincidence that liberals always define everyone's best interests as "voting to keep liberals in power".

Is there any reason my original questions went unanswered? What is in my best interest about politicians overtaxing me and my fellow Americans? How is spending my children into poverty so politicians can buy votes and live a life of luxary in my best interest? How is trading my liberty for a totalitarian government in my best interest?

If this is in my best interest, then you should be able to come up with some argument why it is.

Next, there are not idle citizens sitting on trillions of dollars.

Business is not hiring because the current government fiscal policy is in a state of flux and the current ideology of the people in charge of government are a direct threat to the private sector.

Some wealthy spend losts of money convincing these people that there is a loss of freedom by asking the wealthy to pay taxes or run their businesses without distorying the places we live.

Some people are just more prone to propaganda.

The wealthy who are willing to make the little guy suffer to gain yet more wealth and power have lots and lots of money to spend on convincing the weak of mind that they need to defend the wealthy.

Many of these weak of mind have family tradition all tied up in their politics.

They see themselves as born republicans.

To go against the flow of family trandition woud mean their family would abandone them.

There were a couple posts in this thread from conservatives talking about protecting their "individual freedoms" and "personal liberties". When pressed to define either of those, they didn't. They couldn't.

Someone who came up with those ideas themselves could have.

Individual freedoms and liberty are self explanatory. If you require clarification, consult the US Constitution.
For example. The 9/11 commemoration in NYC last month. The Mayor of NYC declared that religious leaders were banned. Why? Because Bloomburg and his staff were fearful that the presence of Jewish and Christian clergy would offend Muslims.
That secular Christmas displays such as Christmas trees or lights being banned from public property for fear of offending other religious groups.
Public schools dropping terms relating to Christian holidays when naming the breaks given to students. Christmas recess is now "Winter Break"....Easter recess is now "Spring Break".
In this country we have Freedom OF Religion......Not Freedom FROM Religion.
The Left has turned this issue upside down in the name of political correctness.
The US Constitution guarantees us many rights. Not anywhere in that document is the "right to not be offended".
