Representative Michele Bachmann (R-MN), announced yesterday that is now officially a Swiss citizen (as of March 19th), which gives her dual citizenship – US and Switzerland. She is a citizen because her husband is eligible to be a Swiss citizen because his parents' nationality

This brings up a very interesting point. My father, a long time ago, was denied employment by the CIA and FBI, because my mother, his wife, is a Swiss citizen. Because Switzerland is a neutral country, it is not considered to be an ally of the US. So does Michelle Bachmann lose any security clearances she may have had due to her new citizenship? Yes, she still is a US citizen, but she is also a citizen of a country that is not even our ally.

Should any of her security clearances be revoked? Remember, she is also on the intelligence committee.

Good point. She should lose every security clearance she has because her loyalties are now divided. So should Bill Richardson. He holds dual citizenship with mexico.

Hey, what' the big deal?

Just like Mitt, she's visiting her money.

Oh yeah, and getting some decent health care.

The Swedes have said they will not accept them.

Can't blame them but damn - wouldn't it have been nice if we could have gotten rid of them?

Anything to distract from Obama's failed economic policies......

Thank you Zander for the obligitory nonsense "Obamas Failed Policies" post that must run in EVERY single thread on this forum. :cuckoo:

Call up your handlers and ask for your check now.

Disloyal to America? Lose your security clearnace.

Lose your clearance? Lose your elected seat.

RECALL! lol

I have nothing against those who want and choose dual citizenship. And honestly, I really don't have any doubts about Michelle Bachmann's loyalties, even though I despise her politics. I am just wondering if exceptions will be made or if this is going to cause her to lose her security clearance. I don't see how she can be given an exception just because she is an elected member of Congress.

News of Michelle Bachmann's Swiss citizenship have been greatly exaggerated.

Michele Bachmann renounces Swiss citizenship - Tim Mak - POLITICO.com

Actually no...

Marcus Bachmann, the congresswoman’s husband since 1978, reportedly was eligible for Swiss citizenship due to his parents’ nationality — but only registered it with the Swiss government Feb. 15. Once the process was finalized on March 19, Michele automatically became a citizen as well, according to Honegger.

Bachmann’s three youngest children are also now Swiss citizens, and her two older children are eligible to apply for a fast-track citizenship process, according to an email from the consulate provided and translated by Honegger.

Bachmann’s office confirmed that the congresswoman had received Swiss citizenship, and attributed the decision to her children.

“Congresswoman Bachmann’s husband is of Swiss descent, so she has been eligible for dual-citizenship since they got married in 1978. However, recently some of their children wanted to exercise their eligibility for dual-citizenship so they went through the process as a family,” said Bachmann spokesperson Becky Rogness.

I get the whole thing about "family". Thats actually something I support. If her kids made the decision and she went with it as a Mom. Then more power to her.

But for her to "renouce" now and say she HAS BEEN a swiss citizen since 1978, well, thats simply not true. They applied for citizenship THIS year.

but if it IS true, then she was not being truthful before, because BOTH cannot be truthful

Either way, she lied.

Now shes taken a silly quirk story and turned it into a Bachman flubs it up again story.

I didn't know Michelle Bachmann loved socialist liberal countries so much.

And if all you have to claim it's not a socialist liberal country is guns... give me a fucking break.

EDIT: Wow... she renounced it too? What a fucking loon. There's nothing wrong with dual citizenship.

She has been eligible to apply for Swiss citizenship since 1978. She did not acquire Swiss citizenship until recently. There is no misunderstanding.
