Just for conversation sake....

1. He was in Mexico speaking to fellow Mexicans.

2. For me, this falls into the category of "what I said, what I should have said."

I think what he said was a pretty accurate statement.

Would it have been better if he said it differently? Of course.

But Racist? I don't think so.

Golly gee ya think a translation of a animal "Fox" means that "Zorro" should distance himself from the "Hispanic" name...what was this all about...Is he ashamed of his heritage or what? :wine:

PS:Fox being the English snob version!

their collective wet backs.. They do the job FOR WAGES THAT NO AMERICAN WILL WORK FOR. Plain and simple. Toss their asses out. That forces the law breaking employers to up the old wage ante and Americans get the jobs back.. All this talk, especially from George Bush (he's dumber than a box of rocks on this issue) about jobs Americans won't due is HORSE HOCKEY!!! What? Who did these jobs before the mexi's crossed the border illegally and lowered the wage scale? Americans that's who. Kids mowed lawns. White folks, me included at one time, black folks, natives, American hispanics, all of us use to frame houses, do some roofing. But hell no now because the greedy employers can pay the illegals cheap-shit wages and pocket more profit.. George Bush and others who spout the "let em come in" mantra are just plain full of it..... I guarantee you if GM started hiring illegals to work the line for $5.00 an hour the UAW would lose its jobs pronto.. This is pure and simple capitalism, pay the illegals what an American won't work for and Voila!! suddenly Americans are lazy. Oh by the way FUCK VINCENTE FOX WITH A JACKHAMMER!!!!!!!

Those that did this before there were illegal immigrants were the legal immigrants that couldn't get jobs elsewhere because they couldn't speak English and they took jobs they could get until they assimilated. We have cut legal immigration to nothing more than a trickle (in the big scheme of things) and therefore, there ARE many jobs that Americans will not take. This country has always relied on a source of cheap labour to prosper. In the beginning, it wasiendentured servants, then slaves and then after slavery was banned, we got our cheap labour from legal but poor, often uneducated immigrants mainly from Europe (Ireland) and Asia (Chinese). Now we rely on illegal immigrants because we have shut our doors to poor, uneducated immigrants that can't speak English or contribute to the workforce from day one (i.e. specialists).

Given just twenty years ago when I was framing houses and roofing. And for damn good wages then too, a lot more than they pay the wet back's now. And when I was framing, between college semesters and summers, all the guys were whites or blacks,, and all Americans, not a single foreignor among them. And this was the same all over my region of the country. NO WE HAVEN"T ALWAYS RELIED ON CHEAP FORIEGNERS!! That's bullshit I've no doubt you read about and did not experience... Did you? These good jobs that once paid well, quite well, I made as much and more framing, was damn good at it, than I did coming out of college for several years. But hell no not now.. Now it's all mexi's building your houses.. Hope you sleep well under that roof built by a semi-literate Mex that speaks no english and won't be living here long so doesn't give a rat's ass about the quality of work.. Your answer is classic bullshit marxism.. So I'm damn sure you READ it and didn't live it.. You see, in case you're young and naive, professors and intellectuals lie like dogs.

You need to mature a bit if you would like to engage in debate.

I too worked summer jobs and made good money... that was over 20 years ago and our population was not nearly as large as it is now nor was the cost of living like it is now.

You are TOTALLY wrong to state that we have not always relied on cheap sources of labour. Your IGNORANCE is shining through. Did we not have indentured servants? Did we not have slavery? Did we not have a HUGE influx of legal immigrants from Europe in the early 20th century? Those were all sources of CHEAP labour. Today there are lots of kids in certain parts of the country that still make good money during the summers hauling hay, framing/roofing houses, etc. They just ain't doing it in the city where they wouldn't do the work anyway because city kids are too spoiled. One could even make the argument that all the laws AGAINST kids working in "dangerous" jobs is another reason why we NEED illegals (or at least some kind of source of cheap labour). See, your argument against mine actually solidifies mine. When you were working those jobs making "good money" (what you and me thought was good money cuz we weren't out having to live on your own), WE were a SOURCE of cheap labour.

I gather from older generations that the 1950’s/60’s were some of Americans best decades. I wasn’t born then so I don’t know for sure, but I do know it was a time of little immigration both legal and illegal, from the US Census.

American quality of life took its greatest leap at this time as well, just a thought to think about.

Yes and no. There was little immigration during this time, but also remember, we were really the only nation the world that had not suffered any real "damage" from WWII. We lost lots of men and our population was reduced, but we did not have to rebuild and we were able to benefit (profit if you will) from supplying the materials needed to rebuild Europe and Japan. Since we were providing the materials needed, we were able to pay high wages here. Once both were rebuilt however, we had new competition and to compete, once again we need cheap labour to do the more menial jobs.

The last time I was in Korea there was a line at immigration with about 300 people in it. They were all young men coming from Uzbekistan, Khazikstan and Bangladesh to work. In Korea, they import their workers for cheap labour. We are not the first, last nor only country that has depended on cheap labour.

Correct we are not the only countries in the world turning to cheap labor I know both Western Europe and Japan both outsource jobs and bring in labor from other countries. These countries are now simple trying to keep up with flexibility and cost advantages of near slave labor.

Your right when Europe and Japan economy’s emerged from World War II devastation, US companies suffered because they weren’t use to any real competition from foreign markets. These countries had to develop a modern ways of doing business to compete with US firms and by doing so they started raising the quality of life for their citizens.

The problem with today is that there is so many countries in the world competing in the global market that countries like China which can easily raise their standard of living by raising the value of the Yuan, refuse to do so, because their afraid that they won’t be as competitive versus other countries like Indonesia or India.

The biggest problem is that there are literally billions of people in the world willing to work for less than one tenth what most westerners are willing to work for. The second biggest problem is that labor is now so cheaply available that there is little incentive to invest in automation technology to make workers more productive.

If you’re informed you now that economist say that the US productivity rate is very height. This is true based on what they measure; computer technology has helped make office work and keeping track of goods very efficient, but how do you account for the net effect of buying a large percent of our manufactured good from overseas. The large number of illegal aliens in this country, largely not counted for, can also put these productivity gains into question.

Overall productivity is the key to a countries success not it availability of cheap labor. It used to be manufacturing jobs that were sent over sees, but lately even profession jobs like accounting, programming, and engineering have been being sent oversees. Be careful you may see your profession next on the list.

I am unsure whether the war caused a decrease in population? I know those that survived surely more than replaced themselves and many others!

The US certainly took off after the initial downturn of switching off of war production, but what we did under the Marshall Plan, helped West Germany and Japan in the 70's and 80's come close to rivaling us economically!

The GI Bill though, gave the Greatest Generation the ability to provide their kids with the opportunities to thrive like no generation before. College education numbers soared, making the 'middle class' into the 'rich' in any other country or generation. The building that was necessary due to the baby boom, also increased the salaries and prosperty of untold millions.
