This one is funny.

At first glance it seems letting Melania's mother and father become citizens is an economic mistake. It's one Donald probably couldn't fight though, this has been ongoing no doubt and there is only soo much yelling at your wife you can do when the law allows it.

Why do these folks want to be citizens though? Do her parents the Viktor and Amalija Knavs love America? Are our tax rates better? Does where they come from suck?

Are we better off letting them in? Reading for 30 seconds it seems her family is moderately well off multiple small business manager types who could get their daughter into modeling at an early age? Do these 70 year old people have enough money saved up where them being here is going to be as positive for our economy as letting in two 18 year old Mexican boys who will mow my lawn and eventually run a small business for the next 50 years (unfair generalization but let's just be efficient in our words)?

I don’t know enough about her parents to know if they had any special favors done for them or not. Melenia got here on an “einstein visa” of all things. Do with that what you will.

I am of the opinion we allow far too many people into the nation from everywhere. I would suspect we have enough manpower and talent within our borders already.

Yes..... this country is stronger for our Legal immigrants....... you should be more welcoming for those who actually obey the law.

Give more details please. HOW are we stronger with them here? Are they wealthy? I'm thinking they're kinda old and a liability otherwise.

Not that we should or should not let them in. I'm just trying to figure out by what standards we are better off.

I don't think that is possible. There is no such thing as to much productivity. The problem with our immigration system is that it is not merit based, takes an asinine amount of time for people to navigate through it and does not have a logical purpose. Really, how much sense does a lottery make when looking for talent?

What we should be trying to do is drain the rest of the planet of the best thinkers, inventors and entrepreneurs out there. Take them from our competition and bring them here to improve this nation.

Simple republican hypocrisy. Chain migration is ok if our god emperor ok's it. Everyone else f-off or pay up.

Look- I understand where you are coming from. There is rich irony in Trump's mother and father in law becoming citizens through the exact same kind of 'chain migration' that Trump says needs to be ended.

Heck- maybe its his experience with his in-laws that convinced him.........

I presume that Donald or/and Melania sponsored her parents financially in order that they would NOT rely upon handouts from the government.

Lots of naturalized citizens petition for their elderly parents to join them in America. As long as they can support them financially, it's generally not a problem.

What I find funny is that Donald married an person that violated immigration law, she was shown to have worked while on her tourist visa, which violated the law and her tourist visa restrictions.

Premise: Citizen of another country on a tourist visa = Alien
Premise: Worked when she wasn't authorized = Illegal

Conclusion: Illegal Alien

I thought conservatives were against that chain migration.
Not really. they are against chain migration of those that will be utilizing government assistance.

If you can come here and support yourself then go for it. That is the general position on the right. There are outliers of course, those that do not want any immigration at all, but Trump's in-laws coming here are a plus IN GENERAL. They are going to need a lot of services (generating jobs) and have the means to pay for those services - Trump has way more money than required for such.

Of course, who here thinks they are not going to use the medicare benefits that they can apply for :FIREdevil:

that they can apply for :FIREdevil:

Could you provide more details please. IIRC you have to have worked and paid medicare taxes for 10 years to be eligible - in addition to being at least 65. Her parents are in their 70's.

So when did this work occur?

Trump and his loyal Trumpkins are pretty clear that they are against all chain migration.

Except for Trump's in laws.

And families of their own wives.

2. During an interview with Sean Hannity on Fox News, Oct. 11, 2017

"Chain migration is one of the disasters. You allow one person and in that one person brings in 10 or 12 people," Trump said to Hannity.

True.

I will say if they are kept around as Donald and Melania's dependents I won't have to directly support them.

In the big picture though if those elderly parents of Melania aren't bringing in enough money from work or imported wealth then they aren't paying their share and other Americans are.

I mean Donald could be using his money to pay off more porn stars ;)

Or hopefully just buy more helicopters, pay more pilots so they can get their kids through college or whatever.
