First of all, a union member for seven years a long time ago, I believe it was IAM.
The Unions have always been Socialist inspired, and as such their philosophies and policies lean heavily to the Left. If you think Unions have always been beneficial to the working man, what would have happened to the workers at GM and Chrysler had not Barack Obama been elected? The automakers business failure was directly related to the Union's exorbitant wage and benefits demands and Company Managements inability to deny the patently exorbitant. The prevailing attitude inside management had always been to just pass the increased costs on to the consumer, but this time they had competition, so the companies management decided they could make more money in mortgages than making cars and they went boom instead. What do you think is going to happen when the Union goes cap in hand to a Republican President asking for a favor? Barry O has not been named president for life yet.
Its when the Unions, in complicity with the Democratic Party in this country, start acting more like the Bolsheviks wielding the battering rams at the doors of the Russian Duma trying to gain entry, that patriotic Americans should take notice and object before its too late ie Jimmy Hoffa's Labor Day speech. Thinking Americans should have flocked to the gun stores the next day. The Unions are a product of Vladimir Lenin, Leon Trotsky, and Joe Stalin more so than a product of the American worker.
