Mitt Romney cannot possibly be serious. To call Russia “our number one foe” this week was a step back in time. But that’s one time machine Russian leadership doesn’t want to travel in.

People in their 30s and early 40s probably remember Flavor Flav from the rap group Public Enemy. He wore a clock around his neck because he knew what time it was. Someone has to get the former Massachusetts governor one of those.

Romney told Wolf Blitzer on Monday that, “Russia, this is, without question, our number one geopolitical foe. They fight every cause for the world’s worst actors.”

Romney was referring to the fact that Russia has been against U.N. sanctions on Libya, Iran, and Syria. And joined with China (and others) against the war in Iraq.

But to say Russia was America’s biggest geopolitical foe was a stretch. And not how Washington sees it. On Monday, President Barack Obama met with Russian president Dmitry Medvedev at the Nuclear Security Summit in Seoul, who said that the two countries have never been closer.

So after hearing Romney’s comment, Medvedev said from Seoul, “This ‘number one foe’ type of phrase smacks of Hollywood.” Then he issued a warning to Washington White House contenders: “I would advise all pretenders to the U.S. presidency…to use their heads. This is not a bad thing for a presidential candidate.”

China is unable to design a decent civilian jet engine yet and their 'war machine'? Russia is clearly more of a threat than a China that has a hard time keeping the jet engines they purchase in good working order. Then Russian experience in foreign war, global intelligence gathering and manipulating, etc. etc. China builds no military jet engines that are in use.

China's getting better, but nowhere near as capable as Russia and so I agree with Mitt.
