Media ridicules "pay-go" rhetoric

They should tax soda, smokes and booze. Those things cause all the healthcare problems and...
You do of course realize that consumers end up paying all business taxes one way or the other, right ? Not just the ones where the gub'ment feels it perfectly ok to tax us for exercising our right to screw our OWN BODIES up, all of them.

And? Of course its going to hit consumers, its passed directly onto them. :cuckoo:

And you have a right to screw up your body. You just have to pay for it. Its amusing that a "right" to do some things (like screw up your body) means that the "right" should be cheap, but other rights like healthcare, well it doesn't matter if you can't afford.

How very fucked up of you.
I'll pay for "my body", and you can pay for "your body", because I don't want to help pay for "your body."

What a snibbler you are

How do you justify that a price tag should be attached to exercising rights which impose no externality on the rest of society? Should we be taxed on our right to read trashy novels, engage in potentially dangerous recreational activies, have unprotected sex or any other thing that the gub'ment decides is "bad" for us?

Only things that are dangerous/harmful. Somethings have to be taxed, unless you want a pure regressive tax that fucks the poor. So, since you want to tax some things, and not others, it makes sense to tax things that are generally bad for people.

In NYC one of the biggest life savers has been the simple cigarette tax. It can do wonders, really.

And no, you don't have a "right" to read trashy novels. You only have that right if you can afford to pay for it. And the government doesn't have to avoid taxing it so you can engage in that right.

Explain to me exactly how its terribly evil if a trashy novel or alcohol tax goes up because the "right" to have a bit of fun goes away, but somehow its no problem at all if people die because they can't afford healthcare?

Then while your at it, please pay for your roads, your military, your fire fighters and cops as well.

Whoops...suddenly you want us all to work as a team, don'tcha?

Oh....the ol' strawman defense, that won't work here sonny. You see, there are good prudent taxes that we do need for infrastructure, that we all use. I'm not against paying taxes, it's just all the bullshit that is being shoved down yours and my thoats that I'm against. Syn taxing is a start, but it won't just stop there...like you might believe. Then there is the VAT tax that will be following, and if Barry has his way, we will have the CAP & TRADE that will be shoved on us, oh yeah, let's not forget the next stimulus bill that might be in the pipeline for this fall. You see that's not the team I'm on board with. Of course, a socialist wouldn't have any issues with it.

Dangerous/harmful to whom? to oneself? who decides this? FYI I'm not asking for "pure regressive tax that fucks the poor" , I'm not into the oppression of the individual to expand the power of the state (that's YOUR gig)....... I'm for doing away with these idiotic, unjust taxes altogether.

But aren't taxes on soda, cigarettes and alcohol regressive as they are consumed more by the poor?

I don't use roads, actually, I live in a city and don't drive. So why am I paying for them again?

And no, nothing I said was a strawman. There is no difference between healthcare and roads and firefighters and police, etc, etc.

Your not against taxes...just any new taxes

By the way...a public plan will save money.

But aren't taxes on soda, cigarettes and alcohol regressive as they are consumed more by the poor?

LOL, and the collectivist answer is ......

Gub'ment mandate that the "rich" consume more soda, cigarettes and alcohol than the poor, that way we can redistribute the additional revenue to the poor so they can consume more soda, cigarettes and alcohol... until at last the benign circle of mental disorder closes and everyone ends up in the middle class. :D

It doesn't. He referenced healthcare. Next?

Umm, scientists? Its not really disputable that soda, alcohol, cigs, etc are things that are bad for people.

You need to tax something, so what tax would you propose?

you used firefighters, cops and roads in your answer not health care

To a socialist there would be no difference, but to capitalist there is a difference. We don't have a private sector for roads, military, firefighters, and police...but we do with healthcare coverage, in fact we have a menu of types of coverage.
The public plan would cost me more....because I would be paying for my coverage, and helping pay for your coverage...no savings there. The public plan would eventually push out my private coverage through mandates, and then I would not have choice. To me, that would be one of my liberties lost through your socialism.
So do you walk everywhere you go, or do you take some form of public transportation highlighted by the Dept. of Transportation?

Yes, so no matter what, the company is going to try to pass on the costs to consumers. So we may as well tax THEM and then they can try to tax us, but what do they sell? Are they necessities? If not, they can only raise the price so much. And we tend to tax necessities less and harmful unnecessary things more.

And why have their prices gone up in the last few years even though their taxes went down? Because they are always looking to maximize profits. So no matter what, they are going to raise prices as much as they think they can. So I don't sweat their threats. I just won't buy their shit. And then their shit will go on sale. So maybe next year the CEO won't get a $20 million dollar bonus. Not my problem.

If my company doesn't lower my pay down to $10 hr, the extra cost is going to get passed on to consumers of what I sell. So should my company lower my pay?

Well I suggest you move to a deserted island and start your own government if you don't like how ours works. You make more than the poor, so you pay more and some of what you pay goes to things that benefit them, not you. Be grateful you aren't in need of my taxes. That means you are a have, not a have not.

And you'll pay for you and I'll pay for me? Then opt out of your healthcare then and stop trying to spread the risk out. If you never get sick, you'll end up paying for people who do get sick. And they'll get sick because they smoke, drink pop and beer. So that is why we go after them. They're partly responsible for the increase in healthcare costs. So the tax will lower your premiums.

And of course I know they'll never lower your premiums, because they want to max out profits. So no matter what, if we don't reign in the heathcare insurers, they will continue to jack up their prices until millions more can't afford it. And they'll make more money that way. Because the rich people who can afford insurance won't need as much care.

Unacceptable.

So how are we going to tax skateboarding, basketball, rock-climbing, ATV-ing, cliff diving, spelunking, scuba diving, swimming, mountain biking, and the other 100,000 ways one can end up in the hospital.

Colorodoman is going to be pissed when he finds out his carabiner are going to be $500 apiece.

So your rational seems to be; screw justice, it's not important, the only thing that really counts is the empowerment and funding of the (nanny) state, that about some it up? how about a tax for breathing polluted air, "scientists" have confirmed that it's bad for you after all, that cool with you?

Sheesh.. it woud be interesting to see the look on your face when you wake up and realize how cheerfully you've been bending over for the politicians that've been screwing you for all these years and urging the rest of us to do the same, wish I could be there to see it. :disbelief:
