Shortly after the bailout vote, a statement from the campaign of Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) blamed the loss on "the Democratic leadership: Senators [Barack] Obama and [Harry] Reid, Speaker [Nancy] Pelosi and others.

"Their partisan attacks were an effort to gain political advantage during a national economic crisis. By doing so, they put at risk the homes, livelihoods and savings of millions of American families," said the statement, released in the name of senior policy adviser Douglas Holtz-Eakin.

So McCain thinks the Republicans voted out of spite for hurt feelings as well.

This is all very interesting.

94 Democrats voted against the bill.

Several dozens Republicans who were not for the bill were set to vote for it in a show of bi-partisianship out of respect to their party leaders. Pelosi then kicked them in the teeth.

And don't forget that Reid and others have been kicking McCain in the teeth since last week.

Leave it to Democrats to find yet another way to blow a landslide election.

I'm sure he did after running his mouth that he worked to get it thru congress, what a dumbass, this is going to backfire on Mccain worse than anything we have seen so far, he's digging his own grave.

I don't hear Pelosi blaming the Republicans for how some Dems voted.

It's very clear to me that McCain and Boner are saying the Republicans that voted against this did so out of spite.

2/3 of the Dems voted for the bill and that was exactly how many they expected to support it. I dont see why the bill would have been brought to the floor and denied if there wasnt some republicans pulling out at the last minute. I think the Dems and Republicans in congress are fricken stupid to not make sure this thing was going to pass before it hit the floor. The fricken market is crashing and there is too much politics involved and it will be us that feels the pain.

dumb, just plain DUMB
he should have kept his mouth shut
or if he opened it, he should have been saying how the repubs listened to the near 80% of the public that are against this bailout

I think your Democrats leaders have given McCain a new lease on life.

Some other storm clouds on the horizon:

  • Rezgo may start talking. Does he have something on Obama?
  • Fannie and Freddie subpeans issued today. Will we see Raines and Johnson dragged before a grand jury?
  • Low expectations for Palin at debate. What happens if she wins?

Fasten your seatbelts, it's gonna be a bumpy ride.

He (McCain) took credit for its passage a few hours before the vote.

This is great stuff

Chief McCain strategist Steve Schmidt said yesterday on Meet the Press, "What Senator McCain was able to do was to help bring all of the parties to the table, including the House Republicans, whose votes were needed to pass this." And this morning, McCain backer Mitt Romney told NBC that "this bill would not have been agreed to had it not been for John McCain....this is a bipartisan accomplishment, a bipartisan success. And if people want to get something done in Washington, they just watch John McCain."

Keep digging. Mccain cant even unite his own party. He knows we need the bill even though it stinks for the tax payers but the Republicans dont listen to him. Its been acknowledged on several news sources that 12 Republicans backed out at the last minute.

I know, at least we can all laugh at McCain even as the economy falls apart around us.

McCain takes credit for bill before it loses - Politico.com Print View

“Sen. McCain interrupted his campaign, suspended his campaign activity to come back to Washington to get Republicans around a table,” Hazelbaker said. “Without Sen. McCain, House Republicans would not have appointed a negotiator, which would not have moved this bill forward.

“It’s really Sen. McCain who got all parties around a table to hammer out a deal that hopefully is in the best interests of the American taxpayer.”

After the vote, commentators were harsh. MSNBC’s Chris Matthews said: “He’s like a cavalry commander who said ‘Charge!’ and the Republicans went into retreat.”

McCain must read the USMB. He said the same stupid thing.

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Lagging in the polls, Republican presidential candidate John McCain unleashed a blistering attack Monday on his Democratic rival, saying the race comes down to a simple question: "Country first or Obama first?"

Riiiiiiiight. Good old John is always for the right thing and never for his own fucking glory.

What a two faced bozo.
