This guy was truly otherworldly. I had Maynard records, tapes, then CDs all during my formative years. Everything I do musically is heavily influenced by his work. Other kids were listening to top-40 garbage, I was getting me some real music.

Here's a few choice numbers from one of my favorite Maynard albums, "Storm" which really was a tour de force for Ferguson. Enjoy:

And of course my all-time Maynard favorite, Conquistador:

    Maynard's pretty good.

I'm more of a Miles Davis and Dave Bribeck guy.

I like the name Maynard. It always gives me a hearty chuckle.

Typical name from a guy from Maine:

    MAYNARD HIGGINS

Brubeck is in a different universe.

He came up with time signatures that only Zappa could make head or tails out of.

LOL! Maynard practically invented 5/4, which is actually quite a trick. You gotta remember Maynard goes all the way back to the 50s and dominated until he died in 2006.

Nice. I'm more for lounge or bebop, though. Sometimes a little acid

    First word?

C'mon now. Jelly Roll Morton? Charlie Parker?

As for the last word, they're still making great jazz down in NOLA.

How about a good middle word?
