Maxine Waters Tax GangBanks Out of Business

Maxine Waters, D-Ca, wishes to define banks who mind going bankrupt making bad loans as "Gangsta Banks," and she wants President Obama to tax them out of business.

Mediaite

Waters told the crowd that now is the time for the President to use the bully pulpit, and “bring the gangstas in, put them around the table and let them know that if they don’t come up with loan modifications and keep people in their homes, that they’ve worked so hard for, we’re gonna tax them out of business.”

Is this wise when so many people are out of work, to further frighten the business sector?

On the Stupid Meter, this speech ranks 8.5 out of 10.

The real "gangstas" are the fools that took out mortgages without knowing what they were doing. For a country that essentially created free market capitalism I'm amazed at how many Americans are so ignorant on basic matters regarding how money works and economics. I saw a report on my local news where a homeowner in default (a real twit) didn't know the difference between a fixed rate & an adjustable rate mortgage. Miss Waters is typical of the pandering politician who wants a Nanny-State to take care of people from womb to tomb. Actions have consequences you "ignorant slut"*.

*channeling clasic Saturday Night Live skit.
Thanks, ColonialMarine, and welcome to USMB's economic and political discussions. You have nailed what Ms. Waters wants her constituents to think that they will be taken care of, as her linked video indicates:

Gangsta Banks Should be Taxed Out of Business

She's a Democrat. She doesn't care about jobs for the little guy.

Immie

Why would one need a job when you can get a house for free?

Might be free to one, but the taxpayer gets to take up the entire expense, and with half of the population receiving tax benefits, 20% in school, that doesn't leave many taxpayers.

I hate to see taxpayers broken under the heinous opportunity closet Marxists have with the power of several seats in Congress to thrill the media, declare anarchy, and take out free enterprise and its supporters for once and for all.

In a theoretical Marxist world, nobody owns property. Don't think that worked out well in Russia as Stalin was engaged in eliminating 20,000,000 Russians during his regime. This is not to be confused with the 9,000,000 the initial Bolsheviks took out in creating a communist nirvana to remove the sting of monarchy.

Stupid?

Maxine Waters is using her Congressional seat to masquerade enhancing the family fortune invested in TARP by threatening CEOs of private enterprises. The concern for poor people is the skirt she is hiding underneath.

Isn't it against the law to use a Congressional Seat's power and information base to make yourself rich off of?

No, no, no... That rule is for Republicans!

Please do not underestimate our "Do as we say, not as we do" friends on the left!

The really ridiculous thing here is that one of the MAIN reasons that we are in such a mess is the whole real estate thing.

Housing prices were artificially inflated due to way too easy credit!

People did not have to work hard & save a 20% down payment. Banks were tripping over each other to write 100% (or even 110 & 120%) loans - throwing in adjustable rates & interest only options to keep those payments down!

Now, the chickens have come home to roost & the market has to recover.

So what do our friends on the left want to do? Exacerbate the problem with more of the same types of policies that created this mess in the 1st place.

"But, but... These are REAL people! We CAN'T kick them out of their houses!!"

Well, yes we can. And we have to. It's time to get back onto solid footing & re-establish the market.

In Washington, maybe, but around here, dcbl, there are a couple of truly good-hearted lefties.

Also, we need to keep the door open to scientists in society. One of them could develop a tree that produces gold bars one of these days. Now, that would solve our problem if we could shut some traps and keep it to ourselves. Then our poor would have it a lot better if Uncle would just plant the tree in front of his apartment window.

Until then, it's sad to see the media gang up on conservatives. To do well in life, we scrimped and did without, hoping the man of the house had chosen his portfolio well. America was a good gamble back then.

But with decimating businesses the way Maxine Waters is threatening, I'm not so sure businesses can keep on supporting a society wealthy enough to challenge scientists to develop the tree that yields gold bar fruits.

Sometimes I look around and long for the days of my youth when we could all be friends. Now, we have the best opportunity to all be friends, but those in power are dividing the country into black and white schools of thought again. That isn't what Dr. Martin Luther King dreamed of.

Martin Luther King's dream was for all of us to walk hand in hand, supporting each other. Instead, threats are hissed at conservatives who did without for years to put cash down on a house instead of paying interest to the powers that be. We missed something, somewhere, and beating up on the "rich" just doesn't cut the mustard in American society's healing.

Instead of them working and saving back 10% of their salaries into IRAs or savings programs, they're thinking of not paying taxes and getting more and more money from those who did well through working 18-hour days with few days off for years to provide a carefree old age. Hell, in Obama's and Pelosi's don't read the details, just pass the Obamacare 2-ream whitepaper, we got screwed. My insurance went from being a $200 a year deductible to being a $2400 per annum deductible overnight, no excuses from the insurance company we paid for 46 years. Now, we are insured in name only. Fortunately, medicare kicked in, but that's not really fair all the way around, because we made some insurance company wealthy along with thousands of other people like us, and now that we need them, they used the Obamacare excuse to give our healthcare needs a total brushoff.

Pardon my ramble, it just irks me to see a crook beat the "I'm in it for the poor people" drum, when actually, they're creating a smokescreen for taking honey from the honey pot while nobody's looking.

Maxine Waters is the most racist politician on the Hill. One that isn't even that bright.
Yebbut she's the media darling of the moment until it comes out about her TARP conflict-of-interest they don't want the public to know about before election time.

Maxine Waters likes her own special banks:eusa_whistle:

Maxine Waters under scrutiny for bank ties

The Los Angeles congresswoman's husband had ties to OneUnited Bank, which received bailout funds. She helped set up a meeting last fall with the bank and Treasury officials.
March 13, 2009|Richard Simon and E. Scott ReckardWASHINGTON AND LOS ANGELES — Rep. Maxine Waters, one of Los Angeles' most enduring liberal politicians, has come under scrutiny because of bailout funds that went to a bank in which her husband had owned stock and served on the board.

Waters was a senior member of the congressional committee dealing with the financial crisis when OneUnited Bank -- one of the nation's largest minority-owned institutions -- received $12 million in bailout funds.

bankofamerica.com/aheadHer husband, Sidney Williams, served on the bank board until early last year and held at least $500,000 in investments in the bank in 2007, the most recent year for which public financial disclosure statements are available.

A month before Congress enacted the bailout program, Waters helped set up a meeting between the chief executive of the bank, representatives of other financial institutions and Treasury officials.

"When a member of the financial services committee calls, you pay special attention," said Jeb Mason, who was a high-ranking Treasury official last fall.

He said that the September meeting was billed as a broad discussion by minority-owned banks of the problems they faced but that it ended up a discussion of one bank's problems. He said he only recently learned of Waters' husband's ties to OneUnited and would have liked to have known about them. He added, however, that the connection didn't influence the department.

OneUnited did not receive any federal money at that time, but by mid-December, it had received $12 million in bailout funds.

Waters did not respond to requests for comment.

House Financial Services Committee Chairman Barney Frank (D-Mass.) said in an interview Thursday that he advised Waters last fall to "stay out of it" because he knew her husband had served on the bank board

How have they managed to dodge the bullet for two years? If that were an average joe, he would be serving serious time for crimes against the American people. Seems her adviser, Barney Franks knows how to crank the shaft on the American people by making true the adage that "Justice delayed is justice denied."

Time's up.

We have been deregulating the financial industry for 30 years and we are now seeing the results, institutions that are truly too big to fail. Wall Street firms were once partnerships where the partners risk their own money. Now it's our money they risk. The government use to regulate financial institutions, now the institutions select their own regulator, shift business to a non-regulated subsidiaries, or shift the operation offshore. In essence, financial institution are self regulating, answering to no one accept their stock holders. They have in all respects a license to steal.

We really should admire Waters. She never lets her moronic ignorance stop her from speaking her..... ummm..... errrrr.... ummmm..... mind? Is that the right word?

That woman is thicker than pig shit. Seriously.
That may be, but why was the hearing to her conflict of interest postponed indefinitely?
