MASSIVE TECHTONIC SHIFT IN GERMAN FOREIGN POLITICS

They are planning to send offensive weapons and trainers to the Kurds.

The German Constitution (ratified 1949) strictly prohibits the use of the German military for any purposes other than defensive purposes. And the selling or loaning of offensive weapons to third parties is strictly VERBOTEN.



Although interesting in an historical context it's of little import, and indeed this provision of the German constitution is an anachronism – Germany poses no 'threat' to its neighbors, and is still subject to de facto American occupation.


Indeed, there's no reason why Germany cannot participate and fulfill it's comprehensive responsibilities as a member of NATO, including unilateral military actions as authorized by the Treaty's provisions.
