I'm reminded by my parents how Martin Luther King Jr. was dismiss and despised as anti-white, Communist, socialist, anti-American, and an agitator "stirring up trouble" and disrupting the "harmony" between the races when dared to stand up against the segregationists and racism that pervaded the country during the Jim Crow era. J. Edgar Hoover even called MLK the most dangerous man in America and did everything he could, illegally and legally, to discredit MLK.

Enter Barack Obama. he became president after 8 years of republican mismanagment of the country, 7 years of an unpopular war in Iraq, inherited a crumbling economy and a huge deficit. he came into the White House promising change and never said that that change was going to be painless and easy and had to endure and still endures false charges of being a racist, Communist, Socialist, a black radical with an agenda to pay back whites, anti-America and anti-Constitutional.

42 years later, some of the same people who derided King as a racial provoker along with some younger people from the next generation praise MLK and claim to honor his legacy by stressing and manipulating King's "content of character" quote as a way to cover their racist treatment of Obama and forget that MLK, like Obama, was subject to the same hate, mudslinging, and smearing for advocating racial justice and economic assistance and empowerment of the poor of all colors. The same people who engaged in such deplorable behavior against King are acting nearly identical to the Tea Bastards of today who use the same exact tactics against Obama.

To mention Dr. King in the same sentence with Obama is a tremendous insult to Dr. King. Obama has done nothing to earn the respect that Dr. King ultimately died for, and were Dr. King still alive today, he would be distancing himself from Obama at every possible opportunity.

To assume Dr. King would approve of Obama simply because of the color of his skin does a terrible disservice to the memory and life's work of Dr. King. To make a comparison between Dr. King and Barrack Obama strikes me as incredibly bias towards skin color, because the two men couldn't be further apart when comparing social and economic policies.

If your point was that some people hate Obama because he's a Black man who doesn't know his place, then certainly that true.

Who can deny that such overt racism still exists?

We see that racist attitude playing out here on this board pretty much daily.

OTOH, Obama did win an the election, something that wasn't possible when MLK was alive.

And certainly not every person who faults Obama does so for racist reasons.

Many( most, I suspect) of the people who loathe Obama loathe his politics.

We are living through hateful times.

Had Hillary been elected I have little doubt that the TEA PARTY movement would still have adherents.

And while I mostly disagree with their POV and their solutions to the nation's problems, I don't think race is the dominant issue that motivates them top protest.

It's fairly clear that these people hated Clinton with the same kind of intensity.

Its hard to believe everything you just said when you have people in the Tea Bastards calling Obama Communist, socialist and Muslim and people within the Tea Bastard movement who are sincerely all about the issues refuse to condemn the fungus among them. As with MLK, race wasn't the dominant factor in the attacks on him either, power was the motivating factor in the attacks. If Hilary was president you might still have some discontented conservatives out there but it would not be to the level of the opposition against Obama. A person of color in any high position of power is always under greater scrutiny.

They're both black. Other than that... nope.

I don't expect you to understand what I said because in this modern age everyone sees King as an icon for racial justice and forgets the nature of the attacks against him. J. Edgar Hoover didn't label a nonviolent, passive resistance minded MLK as the most dangerous man in America because he was black, it was a lot deeper than that.

Yea, cuz none of us understand MLK at all... I guess that's cuz we're all racists, right? You arrogant moron. Everyone remembers the horrific attacks against him. And we remember the dignity and grace with which he dealt with them. You know what he didn't do? He didn't call us 'typical white people' (that was Obama). He didn't criticize us for 'clinging to our guns and our religion' (that was Obama). He rose above it - because he was a great American - not black, not white, but an American.

And.... I'm still waiting for you to admit your lie.... Or are you just some little cowardly keyboard warrior?

Most of those people are dead dude.

Btw....it's interesting that you linked "racial justice" and "economic assistance" together as if you can't have one without the other.

I guess this is all about cold hard cash in your mind.

And this empowerment you speak of only makes slaves of us.......not free men and women.

For your information........what the "TEA BASTARDS" you spit at are trying to do is empower all of us and free us from the yokes of abusive government.

You want handouts...they want to just be left alone.

You have serious fucking problem with understanding the context of my post but since you want to go there, MLK would never have approved of Glenn beck and the Tea Bastards having a rally on the anniversary of his 1963 I Have a Dream speech, he would have never apprived of Tea Bastards attacking Obama as a racist communist, socialist Muslim who doesn't like white people and MLK would not have been against a health care bill that would guarantee health care for all Americans rich and poor.

You're so hung up on race that you are incapable of rational thought.

And you are a liar.

And you are a misogynist.

And, according to your sig, you 'hate' people based on their political opinions - which, to me, is as ludicrous as hating someone based on their skin color. Moron.

Unlike like you and your dumbass retarded conservative ilk, I don't cherrypick parts of MLK's speeches and legacy as a means to an end to advocate denying equal rights to others like when you dipshits cite his "content of character not skin color" when you want to go against affirmative action. I fully embrace all of his legacy and everything he stood for.

I disagree with you. I watched and listened to Dr. King as a young man. I guarantee you he would have been at Beck's rally, alongside his niece, and he would have applauded Beck and those in support sincerely. He also would have questioned the healthcare procedure, likely pointing out that there should have been more debate, more understanding, and a little more time at the least before it was shoved down our throats. He was NOT a proponent of "go ahead and pass it, because we know what's best for them better than they do," he was all about trying to let everyone understand and then hearing their opinion.

You just like him because he was black.

He was a lot more than just a black man.

And as ironic as it may sound to you, many of us didn't notice he was black.

Shut the fuck up and get out of here you annoying ass drama queen, my post was going deeper beyond race.

No he would not have been at Becks rally and niether would he approve of his conniving ass niece lying about him being a Republican.

In your old days everyone did not like King and he was hated for what he represented, especially about the Vietnam War. He would have supported the health care bill, you're a dumb fuck that knows fuck all about King's legacy.

You do? Really? Please show me any words from MKL which talked about wishing all political opponents would burn in hell. I'll wait..... Just like I'm still waiting for you to either prove that I said I love you or admit you lied.

You're a coward, a liar and a misogynist.

What a way to weasel out of responding to what I said, you conservative ilk have hijacked and distorted King and recreated him to be some conservative when he wasn't. You can't respond to that can you?

Liar. You cannot find anything from MLK to support your opinion that all conservatives, republicans and tea bastards should burn in hell because he would never, ever have said something like that. You lose. You do not embrace MLKs words. I do.

And.... again.... I'm still waiting for you to back up your claim that I said 'I love you'. If you cannot, that is yet another lie of yours. You bring dishonor on the uniform you claim to wear. Shame on you.

King was a Republican. You can't change history just because you wish it was something other than what it is.

He was a social giant, more liberal than those who had preceded him on that front, but in almost every other facet of his philosophy, conservatism ruled.

And some would argue that his social philosophy was conservative as well, I among them.

I'm sorry for you that he was a lot more than just an "influential black man," but for those of us who lived with him, and listened to his words, any comparison of him to Obama is offensive.
