I find it odd that when Dr King was alive, the rightwing called him a Communist and a Racist

Now they claim him as one of their own

Get it right Ed it was the (democrat) JFK administration that called MLK a communist and illegally tapped his phone and used the power of the FBI to try to put him in prison .

I thought Hoover called him a communist, then the Kennedys approved wiretapping him. Weren't they both Democrats?

    Hoover was a Republican....

and I believe he started surveillance on King in 1957....and yes, he accused him of being a communist.

MLK was also a advocate for socialism..
Martin Luther King, Jr. - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia [Opposition to the Vietnam War]

"Though his public language was guarded, so as to avoid being linked to communism by his political enemies, in private he sometimes spoke of his support for democratic socialism. In one speech, he stated that "something is wrong with capitalism" and claimed, "There must be a better distribution of wealth, and maybe America must move toward a democratic socialism."

As for Hoover being a Republican, so what if he was? the Democrats where the anti civil rights group back then, even if they forget that now.

You are unable to tell the difference between a Democrat and a Republican vs a Liberal and a Conservative. It is easy now....not so easy then

Fact is ALL Southern Democrats AND Republicans opposed Civil Rights

Get your history straight. The JFK administration never sent MLK to prison.
