I spent 26 years in the military and loved it even on the days that I hated it.

I live two miles from a Marine Corps base, work out and shop there, spent three tours with the Marines, and my son is a Marine officer. The majority are not thrilled with gays. I would bet the CMC is not thrilled as well.

What was your favorite overseas Naval base? I wasn't Navy, but I've been to a bunch of them. I really liked Rota in Spain, Suda Bay in Crete, Rosie Roads in Puerto Rico, and Naval Base Guam, which had awesome snorkeling. I was not crazy about Naples, Yokosuka in Japan, or Pusan in Korea (mainly because the whole damn town STUNK to high heaven of fish/dead fish). Wasn't as impressed with Pearl Harbor as I had hoped to be, either.

I liked Rota and Roosevelt Roads as well. I was homeported in both Pearl and Yokosuka. I was young and single then and enjoyed them both. I really enjoyed Subic Bay of course. Too bad they kicked us out.

But I do have a problem with gays in the military. Since I am retired I can express that opinion, if I were still on active duty I would be forced to accept it, Would that make me a liar? Or would that make me a soldier who is doing their duty?

You would be surprised at the number of officers and NCO's who do not support this change, but they aren't going to say it or show it.

What they are against are the accommodations that must be made, the changes that will happen and the effect on them personally when gays have the right to act out and the straight men and women have no recourse to complain.

General Amos entered military service in 1970 and therefore could retire at any time after 1990, as of 2010 he could have retired with 30 years prior to DADT being repealed if he felt the need not to serve with homosexuals.

The idea that he's "hanging around" to protect retirement is hornswoggle.
