This concrete monstrosity once flowed through plush grasslands where herds of deer and antelope freely roamed. Named el Rio Porculina by the Spanish explorers in 1769, its banks held stately trees and fields of wild grapes.
The Los Angeles River has become well-known for all the movie and TV scenes where cars race up and down the concrete slabs. Flooding is Nature's way of cleaning things up and, once again, Man had stepped in to mess things up.
