WTF? How far off base can our system get? A 27 year old rapes a 12 year old. He has a record as a sexual offender when that happened. And some sonofabitch in a robe gives him joint custody of the child produced by his rape? How is this possible?

And you wonder why women don't like the Alabama law that does not make exceptions for rape? Hell, this is not even a woman. It is a 12 year old girl.

Faux outrage? I said that the custody had been rescinded. But do you not think there is a problem when this could happen in our system?

No there is definitely a problem... And it goes back to the Judge and their liberal views when interpreting the law... I understand the judge's must have some flexibility when handing out sentences, but this judge drinks his bathwater...

Did the perpetrator in question; serve the time sentenced by the court? Is the child in question the biological child of the offender?

That’s not liberalism. That’s conservatism at its finest. If Republicans had their way they would force that girl to marry that man for life.

Deuteronomy 22:28-29 NAB
If a man is caught in the act of raping a young woman who is not engaged, he must pay fifty pieces of silver to her father. Then he must marry the young woman because he violated her, and he will never be allowed to divorce her.

Irony. Unless I am mistaken. Of course the custody arrangement is insane. My take on your reaction was that the child would be better off aborted, rather than shared custody with a rapist father. Do you think the child in question, after gaining the self-awareness to do so, would prefer to be dead? Would you, if you were in the child's place? Life is always preferable to death, at least . . . the opportunity to have lived at all. How subjective of me, right? However, as a civilization of good people that is the presumption we must always make. Otherwise, who exactly would you choose to decide you no longer have the right to exist?

That's from the Torah. Are you an antisemite?

Also this thread is an epic fail. A two year old case from Michigan has literally nothing to do with Alabama's abortion laws. Judge says he wasn't even aware the dude was a rapist.

There is a presumption that a child is better off having both parents in their lives than not. It happens more than people realize--crack addicts getting visitation, children sexually assaulted being put back in the home with their parent abuser in time, etc. Because those records are generally non-public, people just do not realize the scope of questionable court rulings when it comes to minors.

Yes, he served a small sentence and was paroled.
As for the second question..?

Yes, the paternity was determined.

But if you rape someone, and are convicted of it, you should lose all rights to custody. Not just for the sake of the child, but for the mother.

So much wrong going on in this country...it's a shame that it is happening at all. It disgusts me to see and read about these young and vulnerable children being treated in this fashion. The world has been going mad for too long now.
