After Vegas, and all the argument over gun laws, yet here we have a man pulled over with a huge cache of weapons, ammunition, and survival gear. Many of the rifles were AUTOMATIC or modified to automatic, and none of them had serial numbers or were registered. What was this guy planning?

"(JOHNSON CITY, Tenn.) — Federal agents are trying to determine why a man pulled over for speeding in Tennessee was carrying a cache of weapons including two submachine guns and 900 rounds of ammunition.

Deputies found Scott Edmisten, 43, of Johnson City, carrying a .357-caliber Magnum, a loaded .45-caliber semi-automatic, a .223-caliber fully automatic assault rifle, a .308-caliber fully automatic assault rifle, more than 900 rounds of ammunition, and survival equipment, Washington County Sheriff Ed Graybeal said."

Man... I HATE speeders.

As Taz pointed out it is illegal for him to own it and converting a semi-automatic weapon to fully automatic weapon is also illegal even if the conversion kits exist...

So the question for me why is it no one is focusing on the conversion kits?

Isn't there laws against that?

He sure has some explaining to do. At a really bad time for him regardless of his intentions...

Arsenal? Add a case of beer to that and you have a typical summer weekend at the river in Texas.

Yeah. I think the 900 rounds of ammo is a bit of a red flag. Unless he is going hunting and is a really bad shot.

I hope there is a valid reason for all of this. If not, the SOB deserves the book thrown at him.

Pretty sure his biggest headache is going be possession of weapons with no serial numbers

And rightfully so. He is either going to use it without them being traceable, or, he is selling to God knows who and they will use it without it being traceable. The question is, why would someone want to do that?

Why should he have to come up with a reason? It is up to the state to show that he's up to no good, and having a bunch of ammo in and of itself isn't such a reason.

Having multiple automatic weapons is huge right off the bat. They aren't registered with the ATF, so that makes his case federal. If he traveled across state lines with those illegal guns, that makes it federal.

why is 900 rounds a red flag? I saw that and no flags went up? if the guns are for his own use he will need more ammo than that over the course of his lifetime and if they are for sale the ammo will move them quicker...and just wanting to buy and own a gun is good enough reason, and we do not throw the book at gun owners in this country, it is the criminals you should want the book thrown at, and if this guy is a criminal then lets fry him.

Of course.

So they will look at his social media, his recent activities and other personal indication of his intentions. If he has a reason for all of this besides mass murder and carnage, then so be it.

If not, throw the book at him.

Anyone doing something outside the standard deviation, let's say on the very outliers; will expect some sort of attention and scrutiny be drawn to them. Now if he's some guy living off the land, in the backwoods, that's one thing, if he's some guy who's collecting automatic rifles, stocking up on kevlar (not this case, I know) and police scanners let's say, well, he can't expect people to not have some concern in todays ever violent world of mass attacks.

Is it fair? Not entirely. If he were buying such things in the 1950's most people might not think twice about intent. In 2017, yes, it will draw attention. Hopefully he wasn't planning anything nefarious.

Having a conversion kit in proximity (in other words in the same building) to a weapon that could be converted is "Conspiracy to Manufacture an Automatic Weapon" and is a big time felony. Ten years and a 100,000 fine.

It is evidence that he may have illegal weapons, but it isn't evidence of anything else. He could be going to go shoot up a mosque or going to the lake to plink some cans or anything in-between.

Nope, that is the same as the converted machine guns as far as the felony go's.

Well this is really why the left wants gun control and is blaming guns and not criminals...these types of guns almost always end up in liberal hands/neighborhoods where they end up killing each other...the joke in the south used to be, we don't need to do anything but sell/give them the guns, they will do the rest...and the south was democrat back then.

actually wasn't sure what the conversion laws were, but an otherwise legal gun is pretty serious without the serial number because it is proof of intent isn't it?
