It is not really an exciting thread and the question is not new either. As a matter of fact, we know a great deal today about the answer. Modern genetics suggests that women came way before men. Isn't that fascinating? How were women getting pregnant without men? Or, may be humans were hermaphrodite and then sexes split later?

First "human" females probably mated with the last pre-human male versions but gave birth to proper humans.

Females of some species are known to become spontaneously pregnant in all-female groups like zoos and aquariums. Some safeguard against extinction. Dunno if mammals can do it but fish certainly can. Parthenogenesis it's called.
