You righties made a loud clamor against any suggestion that climate change was due to any human activity. Now, in the growing suspicion that “fracking” is causing earthquakes, you guys must clamor too now about something else.

A USGS report says this about a recent upsurge in earthquakes in the Central US.

While the seismicity rate changes described here are almost certainly manmade, it remains to be determined how they are related to either changes in extraction methodologies or the rate of oil and gas production.

Like bank ATM's, airport kiosks and the Japan Tsunami, it's all part of our plot to bring down Obama.

Curses! Foiled again!

This is a big deal.

It's happening all over the heartland.

Fracking bill clears NJ Senate panel...

Bill to ban 'fracking' clears N.J. Senate committee
Friday, June 08, 2012, A New Jersey Senate panel has approved a bill to ban the practice known as "fracking," a controversial method of extracting natural gas.
A bipartisan bill banning the treatment or disposal of any wastewater from the controversial practice of fracking cleared the Senate Environment and Energy Committee Thursday.

The bill would ban the wastewater produced by hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, for natural gas, from coming across state lines — particularly from Pennsylvania, which sits over the rich gas deposits of the Marcellus Shale.

"The liquids used in fracking are a veritable witches’ brew of toxic substances that are known to be hazardous to humans," said Sen. Bob Gordon (D-Bergen) a sponsor of (S253).

Fracking wastewater involves pumping a mix of water, sand and chemicals deep underground to cause explosions that crack rock and release natural gas deposits.

Happening all over the planet you jackoffs

False. Earthquakes should only happen at fault lines. But with fracking, oil companies use seismic waves to find oil spots. These mid west earthquakes should not be happening, as there are no fault lines in the area.

Wrong, Have you ever heard of interplate quakes? New Madrid near the Mississippi river, but there was a quake in 1812 as big as the San fransko 1906! These kinds of quakes are widespread in nature too.

Another kind of quake can happen from hot spots(yellowstone), which moves throughout time on the plate....Not at a fault zone!

Learn something.

Actually it was bigger...

... rang churchbells in New England...

... created Reelfoot Lake in Tennessee...

... caused the Mississippi River to flow backwards...

... check it out...

This is almost as good as the mental cases saying the Japan tsunami was caused by global warming.

This is exactly why the Leftists are laughed at by anybody with a modicum of rationality.

You say that you are certain of this but have not one clue as to even a relation between the the cause you cite and the effect you cite.

If you were posting this as a joke and I missed the humor, please excuse me.

The trouble with those who are easily duped is that they are so easily duped.

The more the merrier. If they can make Yellowstone blow, the world will be a better place(maybe)

Yes, obviously we need to either remove the population, or they all need to begin riding bicycles.

This is actually quite interesting. If you don't mind I'll quote the entire USGA statement:

A remarkable increase in the rate of M 3 and greater earthquakes is currently in progress in the US midcontinent. The average number of M >= 3 earthquakes/year increased starting in 2001, culminating in a six-fold increase over 20th century levels in 2011.

Is this increase natural or manmade? To address this question, we take a regional approach to explore changes in the rate of earthquake occurrence in the midcontinent (defined here as 85° to 108° West, 25° to 50° North) using the USGS Preliminary Determination of Epicenters and National Seismic Hazard Map catalogs. These catalogs appear to be complete for M >= 3 since 1970. From 1970 through 2000, the rate of M >= 3 events averaged 21 +- 7.6/year in the entire region. This rate increased to 29 +- 3.5 from 2001 through 2008. In 2009, 2010 and 2011, 50, 87 and 134 events occurred, respectively. The modest increase that began in 2001 is due to increased seismicity in the coal bed methane field of the Raton Basin along the Colorado-New Mexico border west of Trinidad, CO.

The acceleration in activity that began in 2009 appears to involve a combination of source regions of oil and gas production, including the Guy, Arkansas region, and in central and southern Oklahoma. Horton, et al. (2012) provided strong evidence linking the Guy, AR activity to deep waste water injection wells. In Oklahoma, the rate of M >= 3 events abruptly increased in 2009 from 1.2/year in the previous half-century to over 25/year. This rate increase is exclusive of the November 2011 M 5.6 earthquake and its aftershocks. A naturally-occurring rate change of this magnitude is unprecedented outside of volcanic settings or in the absence of a main shock, of which there were neither in this region. While the seismicity rate changes described here are almost certainly manmade, it remains to be determined how they are related to either changes in extraction methodologies or the rate of oil and gas production.

So, either extraction methods or rate of production is causing small earthquakes.

Mining Operations cause Earthquakes.

Flipping Hamburgers causes Heart Attacks.

Trucking causes highway accidents, death, distruction.

I'm sure if I put my mind to it I can identify some socially unacceptable consequence of every activity that supports civilization.

Sadly for you, us normal people, who don't think the earth is going to swallow us up, there's the internet

Richter magnitude scale - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Magnitude Description Earthquake effects Frequency of occurrence
Less than 2.0 Micro Micro earthquakes, not felt.[15] Continual
2.0–2.9 Minor Generally not felt, but recorded. 1,300,000 per year (est.)
3.0–3.9 Often felt, but rarely causes damage. 130,000 per year (est.)

you lefties, yall are so fucking chicken shit that you'll die of fear one of these days.

More likely that they will die of hypothermia...global warming and all that.
