The weatherman is wrong. Your phone lines are grounded & it's impossible for it to reach you unless you're doing something weird like holding onto a grounded metal stake inside your house, and the lightning somehow hits inside your NID on the side of your house. In which case God is after you.
And if you get hit by lightning through a cordless phone, God is definitely after you and is making an example out of you.
I heard the same sort of stories before I became a telecom guy & asked how it could happen.. it took about 5 minutes before my Journeyman teacher stopped laughing at me...
