Male Front nudity in movies controversy

And lets let people screw in public parks and restaurants--what the hell to kids need to go there for anyway ! :slap:

?????????

What does this have to do with the thread?

The thread is about nudity and ratings for films, which are shown in a private, closed setting.

People screwing in public is an entirely different matter, and not relevant.

Though if you DO want to see people screwing in public, you can go to Brazil, particularly Rio, where people do indeed have sex in the streets. (They have a very sexualized culture).

And it's rated R. Kids prohibited without an adult.

And those films are rated R.

The point I'm trying to make Bonnie, is that the rating system is not the problem - Films with adult content, for which there is a sizeable market, are appropriately rated.

Andy heres the thing......A lot of times the content details are incorrect and the movie will sometimes contain things I don't want kids or even myself to see, just not interested, seen it all already. In a free market commerce is conducted two ways one- a need is filled, two- a need is created then filled...From my perspective Hollywood does the latter, they create images and set the tone for their moral codes or lack there of, then sell them to the public. How many times have we seen stars without makeup after beeing told by Hollywood just how fantaastic these people are, only to not even recognize them. True we are free to see or not see movies. But there is a lot of false advertising going on there.

And when I hear some star telling me the dangers of owning a gun, how evil Heston is and how they should be banned, or that we should not do drugs then they make movies that glorify both, It's hard not to laugh in their faces. In a free society responsibility is important, and yes it needs to start with ourselves and with parents, but Hollywood needs to do the same.

Regarding the porn industry, at least they don't hide who they are, you know what your making the decision to watch, no ambiguity there.

Are you kidding? that's Andy Somers of the Police!

No, the Police guitarist is "Andy Summers"

I'm "Andy Somers", or as credited on IMDB "Andrew M. Somers"

Common confusion, and no, I wouldn't call myself a celebrity.

False advertising? How about "Hollywood is a town in love with it's own glorified hype of pabulum spew that oozes from the bowels of Los Angeles in search of the everlasting dollar".

I don't know what you mean by false advertising, everything about Hollywood is make-believe. Can you give me a specific example?

Just trying to cut to the chase here Andy. Where do we draw the line because LINES MUST BE DRAWN ? Telling people to close their eyes if they don't like to see something is bullshit.

Yes, I agree that lines can be drawn. I never suggested that people just "close their eyes". theaters are PRIVATE, closed establishments, far far separate and away from the "line" of a public park.

An example of false advertising? I didn't see it.

You guys talk about "Hollywood" as if it's a single entity.

Hollywood isn't even a city - it's a, "area" of Los Angeles.

The "Industry" is composed of 5 major studios and dozens of independents, all interested in one thing: making money in their market niche. There's nothing more to it than that.

Some of them make good product - most of it's crap. McDonalds Big macs are crap too, but that doesn't seem to stop Americans from buying them.

If people stopped buying Big Macs, McDonalds would stop making them.

If people stopped paying to see crappy movies, studios would make different films. It's simple business. You own a business, I know you get this. There's not "secret agenda", though specific actors and writers producers may have agendas of their own.

Some have agendas you might agree with - Mel Gibson's Christ thing, for example. Some have agenda you'd don't agree with.

And there in one thing I see on this board for the week or two I've been here:

Anyone you guys disagree with has a conspirational agenda against you.

Come on folks - follow the money. It's not any more complicated than that.

Happy thanksgiving!

Now Andy I would suggest to you that Liberals are the first ones crying conspiracy, agenda, and nazism when Conservatives speak out against Liberal ideology.

And by the way Im curious as to what a civil Libertarian such as yourself thinks about Political Correctness??

"Political correctness" is nothing more than a euphemism for language that does nothing but obscure or obstruct the motivation or meaning of a specific statement or policy.

In today's world, spin doctors and focus groups carefully manicure statements and ideologies in hopes of getting a few more votes or greater support. The reality is that political correctness just blurs issues with panacea statements catering to the lowest common denominator.

And BTW, I really love your choice of Avatars...

Well Im not sure Andy meant that as a compliment but Ill choose to take it as one. And thank you, unfortunately I am not the artist, I used to dabble in that, but some of them are from friends who are still in the artistic desktop animation business.

???? Uh, of course it was meant as a compliment - what did you think I meant?

To be honest, you stand out remarkably in this forum - both with your iconoclastic choice of avatars, and your educated, reasoned responses/comments. Wish I knew someone like you here in California.
