Finally Cook County has it's thinking cap on and doing something smart. I love the law. It makes perfect sense.

$200 for an oz or less is much better than spending the time to arrest these offenders and spending tax dollars on court time!

Of course the worst Governor in the country says he would pass legislation preventing the county from doing this! Just as he led that charge against medical marijuana!

Fritchey, Chicago aldermen want to ticket, not jail, pot users | Blogs On Politics | Crain's Chicago Business
Under current procedures, according to Mr. Fritchey, Chicago police arrest about 23,000 people a year for simple possession — 90% of them minorities. The vast majority of the cases end up getting tossed out of court, but meanwhile police must take the time and trouble to arrest, book, hold and process those charged, he said.

Instead of using state law, which treats possession as a Class B misdemeanor, with penalties of up to six months in jail, the city should fine offenders, perhaps $200 for a first offense and more later, Mr. Fritchey said.
