Does anyone know the reason why they changed it to green/red/blinking? Is it just to get our attention to read the pm/rep? Oy.

I think they just upgraded to the latest version of the forum software.

That you have to double click on it to change the value.

Shortly after I got rid of the blink my computer crashed and I had to restore it to a point where all was well...so now the blink is back.

I'm pretty sure the resulting instability is what crashed my computer.

Couldn't have. It's just a selection in options, on a add-on browser. It's not part of, or related to, your operating system.
