Maddow: Without unions 'Democrats do not have a way to compete'

Rachael Maddow comment form the OP link...

“Unions are not democratic organizations, but unions’ work is beneficial to the Democratic Party. They are the only institution of any size on the liberal side of the equation. Corporate America, all of corporate America, is on the Republican side."

The blow is real. Public union money going to politicians they elect, who they then bargain with for goodies, has been dealt a death blow. The sad fact is that democrats think this is bad news.

What democrats need to do is shed the communist minded progressives of their party and get back to the blue democrats. Those loyal democrats who believe in America and who want to encourage capitalism instead of dismantling it and sucking it dry.

Democrats need to start courting job creators.

good, because you quoting Maddow is making you look silly

I tend to not spend my time in front of the idiot box. I was working from memory, so I went back to check the numbers. I was a little off. It was 7-to-1, which is still a huge edge.

Wisconsin recall vote suggests power of spending | HeraldNet.com - Nation/World

You're lying to yourself if you think money is the reason Walker won.

I think Walker won because a fair number of people disagree with his actions on collective bargaining, but didn't see the recall as legitimate. It's pretty outrageous to claim a 7-to-1 spending edge had no impact though.

Try to get a job in a union plant in IL. They cant make you join but if want a job you will, the harrasment would get overwhelming, and even if did'nt join you still have to pay dues. So it might as well be a closed shop. They wont let in non-union contractors as well.

Not true, IL is not right to work. You don't have to have a prerequisite of joining the Union, but Union membership is required shortly after you take the job. Either way Union dues are subtracted from your paycheck right away.

You cannot be forced to join a union. You can be required to pay agency fees, but that is a requirement your employer imposes on you,

not the union.

You have never heard of a closed shop?

Have you?

"A "closed shop" became illegal in the United States with the passage of the Taft-Hartley Act of 1947."

Closed Shop

Damn Smokey there are three types!

Closed shops - Which requires Union membership before even applying! Made illegal, but this goes on regardless in big Union states like IL. You think when they get an application they don't look at the Union membership list before granting an interview? LOL, it's well know in IL that if you want a Union job, then you better have been a paying Union member for at least months. But I digress.

Union Shop (Non-Right to Work States) - You must join the Union shortly after you are hired (many times it could be within days or weeks). Regardless Union Dues are subtracted from you paycheck involuntarily right away!

Open Shop (Right to Work) - You have the option of whether to join the Union or not. No employer or Union can force you. Lastly you have the option of whether to pay the Union Dues or not!

It's from the exact same source he pulled his numbers from.
