5. LINK:UPDATE 1-Gaddafi tells Palestinians: revolt against Israel | News by Country | Reuters

"Palestinian refugees should capitalise on the wave of popular revolts in the Middle East by massing peacefully on the borders of Israel until it gives in to their demands, Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi said on Sunday.

Gaddafi is respected in many parts of the Arab world for his uncompromising criticism of Israel and Arab leaders who have dealings with the Jewish state, though some people in the region dismiss his initiatives as unrealistic.

He was giving his first major speech since a popular uprising in neighbouring Egypt forced President Hosni Mubarak to resign, an event which electrified the Arab world and prompted speculation that other Arab governments could also be toppled.

"Fleets of boats should take Palestinians ... and wait by the Palestinian shores until the problem is resolved," Gaddafi was shown saying on state television. "This is a time of popular revolutions."

"We need to create a problem for the world. This is not a declaration of war. This is a call for peace," he said in a speech given to mark the birthday of the Prophet Mohamed, a holy day in the Islamic calendar."

Bush signs order lifting sanctions on Libya

September 21, 2004
President Bush on Monday signed an executive order lifting the remaining U.S. commercial sanctions against Libya after determining the African nation has met all of the U.S. requirements for eliminating its programs on weapons of mass destruction, CNN has learned.

The order went into effect Tuesday.

In December Bush announced an agreement between the United States, Britain and Libya for Libya to give up its WMD programs in exchange for the lifting of U.S. sanctions and better relations with the international community.

Cleric calls on Libyan soldiers to shoot president
Tuesday 22nd February, 2011 - A top cleric has called on Libyan soldiers to open fire on Libya's unpopular Leader Muammar Gaddafi if they see him.
Gaddafi's government has been opening fire on demonstrators with fighter jets with forces loyal to Gaddafi using live rounds. There have also been reports of the arrival of planeloads of armed foreign mercenaries in the capital, Tripoli.

The Egyptian cleric, Yusuf al-Qaradawi, has said the soldiers should shoot the president if it means freeing the nation of oppression. Al-Qaradawi, who is widely regarded as the spiritual leader of the Egyptian opposition Muslim Brotherhood, has decreed a fatwa against Gadaffi, who has ruled Libya for over 40 years.

He told al-Jazeera that such killing would "rid Libya of him." Al-Qaradawi, who also heads the International Union for Muslim Scholars, has only been back in Egypt for the past week after three decades in exile.

Gaddafi may become pinned down after massacre
Tuesday 22nd February, 2011 - There have been reports of a massacre in the Tajura and Fashlum districts of the Libyan capital, Tripoli.
Reports from residents say gunmen were brought in by helicopters to shoot at people indiscriminately. It has been suggested the helicopters contained armed African mercenaries. The large number of deaths included women and children. The four-decade-old rule of Libyan leader Muammar Gadhafi has been shaken by the days of violent protests, which only reached the capital Tripoli on Monday.

During the day, Libyan the leader's son warned early that the country would become embroiled in a bloody civil war if protesters were not to accept reform offers. In a speech broadcast as gunfire rang out in the capital, he said his father would remain in charge with the army's backing and would "fight until the last man, the last woman, the last bullet."

Saif al-Islam Gaddafi condemned the uprising as a foreign plot, but urged citizens to help build a "new Libya". He said: "Libya is at a crossroads. If we do not agree on reforms, we will not be mourning thousands of deaths, and rivers of blood will run through Libya." During the last 12 hours or so, the Libyan leader's hold on power appears to be slipping. His entire UN delegation has condemned the violent response to protestors, with some supports suggesting the delegation, or members of it, are seeking exile.

Two Libyan jets landed Monday in Malta, with fighter pilots of the Libyan air force asking for exile after they were allegedly ordered to bomb crowds of protestors. Several Libyan ambassadors have resigned around the world in protest to Gadhafi's handling of unprecedented public uprisings, including Libya's ambassador to the United States, India and Bangladesh. All have echoed the UN delegation in calling for Gadhafi to step down.

Ghaddafi is definently a tyrant but, something tells me this might not be good for the US. Libya is ripe for an Islamist take over because unlike Egypt they don't have a strong central Army in place to defend the country from radical loons from taking it over. Keep in mind Libya was second place in having the most foreign fighters in Iraq behind the Saudis, I have a feeling the regime that replaces Ghadaffi could make him look like a cuddly teddy bear in comparison.

1. Name something good coming from Libya?
2. About all you will be able to mention is, *oil*.
3. *Sweet Crude*.
4. Your feeling about a worse leader is more than likely right, and the people of Libya can forget about democracy, they can't obtain it, and the fit never will fit, Islam in general.
5. They may as well run out into the sea, death would be better, but who will lead them?
6. Saudi Arabia is next folks, that kingdom is ripe to be picked.
7. I will shed no tears for them.
