Thank you for the input, regardless of the timing.
The decision ended up being based on two things....
1. My emotional state, which would have been absolute and inconsolable despair. It would not have been conductive to him having a nice, easy transition.
2. Wanting to give Dyre the cleanest possible break between me and his new owner. A three hour ride in the trailer works well for that.
It ended up working out well, and we have again received a multitude of near demands that we come up in the Spring and see Dyre and ride the Icelandics (they have a special gait called a Tolt). I'm looking forward to that, but it will be a tough thing to do on some levels.
