Volunteers in Africa Beware
10 hrs · Edited ·
We have some very good news! A South African volunteer agency, Volunteer Southern Africa, that we disliked very much for sending volunteers to lion breeding farms has decided to stop doing this!

Remember those videos featuring Jon Watson? Well, no more videos like those. First they dropped the Marakele Predator Centre, now they announced that they are dropping the Living with Lions project at Lion Park. We have removed Volunteer SA from the Bad list for Volunteer Agencies. They still send volunteers to Tshukudu, which is a project we have some concerns about, but it is a step in the right direction!

Tshukudu no longer breeds lions so they are not offering lion petting/walks activities anymore. I wish they stop showing petting of leopards, as leopards are even more dangerous and unpredictable than the lions. Tshukudu is connected to hunting as the Sussens are a family of hunters and they still have a hunting safari business they advertize and run from the same reserve. And lets not forget the allegations of connection to lion canned hunting as early as the 1990's. We have now moved Tshukudu to the "hunting connected" category. It appears that the young generation of Sussens may take the reserve activities on a new path that will no longer include hunting, we sure hope so.

From the Volunteer South Africa page "Volunteer Southern Africa strives to ensure that our volunteers are always involved in the most rewarding volunteer programs. Having said this, we have decided to no longer send any further volunteers to the "Living with Lions” program."

We really do need to save them but there's more money in killing.

Enjoy the video although I'd rather he were in the wild where he belongs.
