It would seem that Darth Cheney hasn't been keeping on the news. In an interview with drug addled gas-bad, Rush Limbaugh last Thursday, Cheney reasserted that,

<blockquote>"...Abu Musab al Zarqawi, a Jordanian terrorist, al Qaeda affiliate; ran a training camp in Afghanistan for al Qaeda, then migrated -- after we went into Afghanistan and shut him down there, he went to Baghdad, took up residence there before we ever launched into Iraq; organized the al Qaeda operations inside Iraq before we even arrived on the scene, and then, of course, led the charge for Iraq...</blockquote>

This despite a <a href=http://levin.senate.gov/newsroom/supporting/2007/SASC.DODIGFeithreport.040507.pdf>Pentagon report</a> released on the very same day debunking that alternate version of history. Bush has recently mentioned this same connection in recent speeches.

Why does this shabby straw-man keep cropping up in Administration rhetoric? Because they've got nothing else. They were proven wrong on Iraq's WMD programs...They were proven wrong on their rosy estimation of the duration and cost of the invasion and occupation of Iraq, and now they stand proven wrong on their assertions of Saddam's ties to Al Qaeda. This administration should resign before it embarrasses itself and this nation any further, or worse, spark a war that could quickly spread beyond the region to consume the world.
