The LP like the Ds and Rs needs a simple set of 1-3 policies. Get elected get those policies institutionalized and then go back for more. That is what works. My three would be:

Create national non-coercive taxes.

Prize money should be paid for results not progress reports to get rid of the various bureaucracies.

Index government pensions and benefits to life expectancy.

Me? I'm conservative with strong Libertarian leanings. Unfortunately I've never met a Libertarian candidate that didn't come off as having a screw loose. Nope, I'll stick with those that seem sane. They are not necessarily of a party, but have principles I can agree with.

I watched a libertarian party convention on C-SPAN several years ago and concluded that the party was laughable.

Either way, hypothetically, if the libertarian party swept the GOP out tomorrow; than the next day there would be a new third party started by unsatisfied libertarians.

I am pragmatic. I recognize that I can't get my way 100% of the time, that no single party is going to be everything to everyone, and that the best I can do is support a party that approximates my viewpoint while realizing that it can't cater to it.

Our system isn't really set up to favor ideologues, and when they do gain power they generally make a mess of things.

We are functionally dysfunctional, just as we were set up to be.

Maybe you should re-introduce yourself to some modern libertarians. John Stossel's show on Fox Business is pretty decent. He and the many libertarian guests he has on have never struck me as whackadoos (than again I tend to have the same libertarian beliefs they have). The Jason Lewis radio show is another good one.

I became a Libertarian in the late 1970's. I remember being in New Haven where I worked for Smith Barney when I signed a Libertarian petition.

If Americans fail to form a political party that will win elections and destroy the Democrat Republican Crime Family that takes bribes for kickbacks in the wide open, we Americans are doomed.

There is much more to say but I know that the American trade policy and the irrational budget is going to continue destroying our country right before our eyes. America has been taken for a ride by the privileged who gambles with our bank deposits, squanders our treasury, and steals our jobs. But the worst crime is that they have controlled the media to peddle propaganda that has put more than 98% of Americans into a brainwashed trance. They don't need guns to our heads to keep electing their private government. The trance is far more powerful than guns.
