Liberals historically have always held themselves up as the 'defender' of privacy.

After 9-11 lib's screamed bloody murder that the Patriot Act was an 'invasion' of privacy. True libs don't even want to intercept calls originating from known terrorist countries! Nope, invasion of privacy they say.

They say it's a woman's right to control her OWN body. Roe v Wade

They are staunch defenders of the HIPAA legislation protecting one's private medical information.

We could go on and on and on....... I'm sure someone else will add more.

So, riddle me this lib's, WHY on God's green earth are you SO WILLING to give up control of YOUR ENTIRE BODY to faceless bureaucracy in Washington?

Talk about an invasion of privacy! This is the ULTIMATE invasion of privacy. Any behavior "THEY THINK" is risky and costly to the 'system' will be penalized in one way or another. Want to do a little hiking in the wilderness, nope to dangerous! Want to go snowboarding, nope to dangerous. If you a vegan, want to have a big ole plate of french fires smothered in cheese. Nope, bad for your heart and on and on and on................................................ ................................................

One of the plans 'cost savings' measures is to digitize and centrally locate ALL medical records. You've seen the IBM commercials. Great, let's have your entire health history in a database the government has control over! Probably would use MS Windows as the OS. HA, that's a secure platform.

WHY, WHY, WHY are you willing to do this?? How much of your body are you willing to 'give up' to the government? Your body and your mind are pretty much the LAST autonomous space you STILL control!!

Blind sheep being led to the slaughter.

Umm, we aren't.

Really? Can you provide proof of this?

How have you right wingers all of the sudden become the conspiracy theorists? Is that you Dick Morris?

Because if my body is broken or sick, I'd like to be able to have it fixed before it gets worse. It's a no-brainer.

Can you post anymore rightwing alarmist propaganda? Have you read the actual proposals working their ways through congressional committees? Because if you had, you'd see that there isn't an invasion of privacy anymore than your hospital invades your privacy, and that the government doesn't do anything medical and only sets up the system of finances for those who aren't insured. Give me a break! All this is Lumbaugh-barf that's been swallowed and then re-thrown back up.

Even the screeching about "invasion of privacy" if medical records go high tech so that a specialist in California can immediately read the history of a patient in Florida. Good grief, don't these naysayers realize how many "hands" medical records currently pass through the old-fashioned way? From the doctor, to the transcriptionist, to the records department for filing, retrieved by someone else to make COPIES as necessary. Don't think for a moment that the poor schmuck in for a penile pump doesn't have his file read and chuckled over in the lunch room, or in smaller communities that the nice lady next door came in for alcohol addiction and the typist who lives next door can't wait to tell the other neighbors.

The public healthcare option is a De Facto single payer system. It is designed to push private insurance over the cliff. All the usual lib suspects are on record as having said as much.

Hell, when the insurance companies got hold of my medical records, they no longer wanted me as a client. So no, I'm really not that concerned. Am I concerned about rationing? Of course I am. I've already felt the blunt of rationing with this great private system we have.

Healthcare

Privacy
No such thing.

Liberals
The neoliberals ... like neocons ... are not truly liberals.

Like who? I think they want the private insurers to stop yanking our chains is all. Public insurance will force them to do what they should have been doing all along before it came to this--be competitive.

How about--they have given their bodies up to faceless bureaucracy in the private sector for so long?

I do not care about UHC. In fact, I am totally against it. But your argument about Bureacracies, ehh, just does not fly. Trust no organization--be it public or private.

Nice list. First the enemies to the right, then the enemies to the left. At least I know I'm not being led to slaughter. I've been surrounded.

I do not give a damn about Private Healthcare insurers. Who does?

Tell me--would you risk getting beat into a settlement that deprive you of adequate healthcare so that they can make a profit? Would you prefer suing them each time they refuse to pay and tell your doctor, who knows what you need to get healthy, not to treat you? No.

I say let the system persists!! But I am not supporting this because the poor Healthcare Insurers can't stay business otherwise. Healthcare Insurers can go to the "really hot and smelly bad place" in my book.

Screw the Private Healthcare insurers. May they fall harder than IndyMAC!!

I've worked in an HMO and I know first hand that the HIPPAA laws get violated everyday, so much so that it has become common practice and quality controllers are so desensitized they don't even notice it.
Then answer isn't to make healthcare another state run organization...the answer to ask the already current standing HMO's to help curb the uninsured populations with programs and creating a state medical system that is effective in not only seeing patients but providing quality healthcare. I've heard a lot of people talk about this could potentially make insurance premiums go up and thats simply not the case...that can and should be mandated by the state. Kaiser Permanente and others like it, have millions upon millions in cash reserves that literally just sit there...thats money that could be used and inserted back into the economy through health care initiatives and programs.

What is being mandated??

I don't like mandates!

I dont like mandates either, but in this scenerio I think its the only way to make healthcare fair. For example, last year was my last year at KP and we faced a huge problem with premiums and the percent increase we had to make from fiscal year 07 to fiscal year 08. Because we had such a high percentage increase our biggest competitor in the area offered a plan that gauranteed 2 years of health care with the same premium.
If the government put a cap on what private companies could charge for health insurance it would negate that issue entirely. Albeit this isn't a perfect solution and it does leave some work to be done in the hands of our government, I think this would curb the inflation wars of premiums and make the focus more on providing quality healthcare. Because, in the end people should be chosing insurance not on how much it costs, but where can I get the best service.

What is the difference between a lib and a neo lib?
