Liberalism in School Management - No More Homework

Homework has never made one single person smarter or more educated. It's completely worthless.

I just asked a long long time teacher their opinion and they claim a small amount is required for nothing else than practice.

One wonders how anyone gets good at anything without homework aka practice. Think I'll see how I do at the Masters next year. I have done any practice in twenty years but why should that matter?

Homework can be useful for practice and keeping smartass kids from being everconfident.

But a large percentage of the time it is just idiotic busywork that conditions kids to follow orders even if they are stupid.

How about reading a novel? Outlining chapters? Typing an essay? Should all this be done in class? Wow. That would make teaching a whole lot easier. :cuckoo:

Our honors kids get homework almost every night in every subject. And they do it. And they are getting into the best schools.

Our general kids get very little. And most don't do it. And they are headed no where.

Coincidence? I think not.

Another fifteen states have below average high school and college graduation rates: Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and West Virginia.

State Education Rankings: Graduation Rates for High School, College, and Grad/Professional School

Check out the bottom 15. We call that the "Republican base". Seems Republicans need to spend more time getting their kids to stay in school than try to teach worthless bullshit like "magical creation" and "trickle down". They make fun of "liberals" but are raising a generation of "Jethro's and Ellie Mae's".

Cut the bullshit dean. The best schools in NJ are in Republican districts. The worst schools? Newark, Camden, Jersey City, etc. which have been ruled by Dems for decades. And guess what? They get a lot more money too. Go figure.

Not like poverty has anything to do with that...

You talk as though the purpose of school is to go to another school. Here are people graduating from school.

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p0wk4qG2mIg]YouTube - ‪Harvard Graduates Explain Seasons‬‏[/ame]

Graduating from Harvard and not being able to explain the seasons!?!?!?

Harvard is in Boston. Doesn't it snow in Boston? So for for years these STUDENTS could have snow falling outside the windows of their classes and they didn't know that when it was winter in Boston it was summer in Australia.

Do people actually need to go to school to learn that.

And then they graduate and work for corporations. So college graduates in the nation that put men on the Moon can't figure out that planned obsolescence is going on in automobiles 40 years after the Moon landing. Is this so called education just a treadmill of stupidity where supposedly educated people are in the habit of being stupid in complicated ways?

The world population has gone from 2.5 billion to almost 7 billion since WWII and college graduates can't figure out that all of the cars are stupidly designed. It is just a matter of how much they impress other people that don't understand how they work. Why don't cars have turbine engines? Oh yeah, it doesn't occur to college graduates to think of that.

The jets they fly around the world in have turbines but the WWII planes had piston engines like their cars. It doesn't occur to them that that is peculiar. School is like religion from European culture. INDOCTRINATION into to thinking more or less the same thoughts as everybody around.

But it's an HONOR!

Curious how educators haven't thought to make 700 year old double-entry accounting mandatory in the last 60 years. More people might notice the depreciation of the crapmobiles if so.

I agree take Dean's home state of IL, the worst districts are the Chicago districts. The Chicago districts are all he blue districts!

Inner city schools have very low expectations for their students. Schools with higher educated, wealthier parents set the bar higher. You don't have to be a statistician to figure out why there is an "achievement gap". No amount of money can fix that.

Lowering standards for kids who need MORE work - not less - is about as racist as it gets IMHO.
