1995 was the very first year the internet was made available to the public in the USA. No one knew what the internet would become back then, and many were skeptical. Although it's interesting that the points he made in the article are the very things we still debate about today.

Oh, and by the way, nowhere in the article does he say the "internet is just a fad." So edit your clickbait fake headline, jackass.

Nobody knew? You mean except the people that were quoted in the article that he ridiculed?

This idiot said that point and click commercial commerce wouldn't happen, uh...Amazon.
He said computers to too expensive and difficult to use in classrooms...uhh wrong.
He completely dismissed the idea of buying books and newspapers online.

The title is actually correct...but they missed the bit about how the internet would enable the Total Surveillance State and how individuals would be turned into products by (Anti)Social Media.

Dragging out articles from 22 years ago?

Man, you guys REALLY want to change the subject.

Title of the OP is a lie. The article says nothing about the internet being a fad. In fact a lot of what it says is true. Unfiltered stories on social media has led to a rash of fake news. That's different from the "fake news" Trump talks about, which is just news he doesn't like.

Uh, no.

Where do you get the shit you post?

The Internet was available to the public in the early 80's. UseNET was opened to the public in 1983 by Barry Leiner of DARPA. The WEB came about in 1991, but the web and the internet are not the same thing. Mosaic changed the internet and made it accessible to those lacking computer skills, but that is not the start of the Net.

Thank you, Should-have-been-President Gore.

Vint Cerf gives credit to Al Gore for helping create the Internet

Vint Cerf?

Did he have something to do with WorldCom?

So, Cerf and Kahn developed TCP/IP back in 1986, do you think that Algore the magnificent traveled back in time to create the Internet?
