Not entirely true, but I guess it's necessary to ignore a lot of history in order to peddle some ideological talking point or other. Cherry picking certain time periods helps.

Bulltwinkle. There are plenty of people in this country who advocate just that...and the fact that you make such a silly absolutist claim doesn't give me a lot of confidence in your intelligence.

What kind of "groups" are we talking about? The elites and the have-nots? You can bet your ass(ets) that the politicians who would disarm Americans reserve the (2nd Amendment) right to arm themselves. A case in point is radical anti-gun senator Edward (Teddy) Kennedy's personal civilian bodyguard who was arrested for trying to enter the Senate Office building armed with several fully automatic weapons. Senator Teddy quietly got the charges dismissed by calling in a political favor.
