Sherman's army raped and killed slaves, city folk, they didn't give a fuck. Lee couldn't take the atrocities anymore, that's why he surrendered. A couple of battles that went badly also contributed.

Secession was a weapon used by every state and region in the country at one time or another; that's because it was understood from the beginning that the Union was voluntary, which in turn was why Madison and many other Federalists specifically rejected granting the Federal government the power to use violence against a state government at the Constitutional Convention. Lincoln simply wanted to disproportionately tax the South to pay fro big subsidies and corporate welfare for many of the northern states. We know this because he said so, and we also know it was the main reason for the war by the votes his government focused on passing first, and 'slavery' was way way down on the list. We also know his 'plan' was to keep blacks on the plantations and keep them growing cotton, with no rights to leave without written permission from the new 'owners'. We k now this because that's exactly what he did in the 'freed' states.
Of course you vermin need the fake history in order to keep up the south bashing; you need that because of the miserable record of northern racism and corruption drove many southern voters away from the Democratic Party and radicalism, and to keep attention away form the major race riots 'liberal' states still suffer from most every years, long after the 'civil rights' movement.
