Why were Dems against passing red flag laws? Two reasons that I can think of:
1. Trump was for it so they're against it. Stupid, but there it is.
2. They wanted stricter laws, or at least that was their excuse. In Washington these days, everything is political advantage; how much do we gain or lose compared to Trump? Does't matter whether the law is good or bad for the country, it's all about Trump. If the calculation is that he benefits more than they do, then case closed and they're against it.
It's okay to want stricter laws, but sometimes you take half a win rather than nothing. But frankly there are some Dems who won't accept half a win, they want it all or nothing.
