The Conservatives i know around here are blue collar people. Because everybody around here are blue collar people. People of no particularly trendy clique. Salt of the Earth folks.

If you want Conservatism to drive popular culture, ask yourself why conservatism hasn't driven popular culture since the 1950s and the movie production codes. Why hasn't Ayn Rand sold as well as Jack Kerouac or John Steinbeck. Or why episodes of "Julia" or "Star Trek" featuring inter-racial romantic love drew more viewers than Ronald Reagan and his Twenty Mule Team Borax programs?

It's not part and parcel of a Conservative political ideology to be actively involved in the creative arts. No more than it's in the Liberal's character to be actively involved in the creative arts. Many Liberals I know are also blue collar people.

The point is, it's not politics that drive popular culture, thus dictating what is hip. It's people who are artists and creative technicians and personalities.
