So basically how all employers treated all employees back then got it.

The entire story is a fiction. I can tell you that the LEAST relevant contribution NASA has ever had is the team of African American mathematicians. I highly doubt such team has ever even existed.

Kind of reminds me of the story about how the first image of the black hole was credited to a woman, even though a team of men was basically entirely responsible for it, and one man wrote over 90% of the code.

Women aren't usually very interested in mathematics and science. And a black woman who has the IQ for it is basically an unicorn. Hence, white sausage fest is what we find, as it should be.
