Think back to the first election the current administration ever won.....

No....it just means that at 8% he just wasn't a candidate to take seriously. Who's going to waste attention on an 8 percenter?

Now he's in the top tier....the spot light is on him and the left (conveniently remembers) and the right (conveniently forgets) that this dude is a bombastic, ethically challenged, thrice married adulterer with a penchant for shooting his campaign in the foot. Ohhh what a great choice for the Party of Morality, God and Family values. Certainly much better than a man who has been married to the same woman faithfully for years, has no affairs or scandals on his coat-tails, and is a faithful church-goer. What irony

Seriously though - a general election, a race between Romney and Obama could be very close. Romney is much more likely to be able to attract independents and those from the center than Gingrich. Gingrich may be the darling of the right this week, but that doesn't translate into electable in a general election.

That's because they believed Republicans wouldn't be stupid enough to nominate him. Now nomination seems likely and the presidency a possibility, they are certainly concerned as everyone should be.

One thing Newt supporters don't have to worry is skeletons in his closet. They are in the headlines and have been for many years.

I think her point is that the media is going after newt now because they see him as a threat to Romney getting the nomination meaning they want Obama running against Romney and we should thus support Newt.

It's a flawed argument.

None of this is new stuff.

Like the cheap trick media stunt about Bush ancient 1970s DUI days before the election.

Bush had a COMFY 7 point lead over Gore which turned into a nailbiter.
