There are, unfortunately, real racists to be found from all races, regions, and points along the political spectrum. As we have seen on this forum, there are some who claim to be Republicans or conservatives who are unabashedly and unapologetically racist. These types usually come off as oafish, anachronistic clowns. There are at least as many racists among those who self identify as democrat or liberal. These racists, however, are less likely to be honest or even self aware regarding their own obvious racism. Some seem to believe that they cannot be racist owing to the fact that they vote democrat, or that they really, really believe THEIR racist notions are ‘correct’ (as all true racists do). Some try to claim that their own skin tone, background, family or experiences have granted them immunity from being racist. This is, of course, illogical and absurd. I think that if you chose to have amnesia then you come to this conclusion.

I’ll end this by saying what racism is not. It is not complaining about racism directed at blacks by whites. It is not the angry response to the built in disrespect of a persons humanity by the race that thinks they are superior either. It is not the animosity built up in those who have been the ones disrespected by the race that thinks they are superior. A lot of whites do not seem to understand what white racism has done and then want to quickly call racism the angry reaction, responses and animosity created by white racism.

So as long as you deny the things that have created the mistrust to believe the response is racism, .you are the one being dishonest.

This is why political debate goes absolutely nowhere these days. It’s hard to have rational discussion with people who are starting their argument based on complete lies. Not only do they base their argument on these lies, they want these lies to be true. Even when you present them with indisputable factual data that contradicts their beliefs, it makes absolutely no difference.

And therein lies the problem. They’re suffering from cognitive dissonance. Simply put, it’s where the brain creates it’s own reality when faced with two conflicting beliefs.
