Transparency International, a Berlin-based nonprofit that monitors and exposes corruption around the world, has released its annual Corruption Perceptions Index on 146 countries surveyed. The least corrupt countries are Finland, New Zealand, Denmark, Iceland, Singapore, Sweden and Switzerland. The most corrupt countries are Bangaladesh, Haiti, Nigeria, Chad, Myanmar, Azerbaijan, and Paraguay. Wonder if our outsourcing companies have any operations in those countries?

The United States ranked #17 on the Index, tied with Belgium and Ireland. Not bad, I guess, considering that 146 countries were surveyed.

The Transparency Corruption Perceptions Index can be accessed at Transparency International's website, if you have an interest in reading it.

I have a hard time believing that Sweden and Finland are not corrupt. They both are home to Nokia and Ericcson which are very large manufacturers of wireless telecom infrastructure equipment and I know for a fact that many of the contracts they won in Asia were due to bribes.

As for the other countries, when your economy depends almost entirely on tourism, it is kinda hard to be corrupt....

Oh, and Singpapore!! LMFAO!!

I do a lot of business there and I have first hand experience with the corruption there. Geeze, who made this list and what was their criteria?

The son of Lee Kwan Yu was caught up in a big scandal regarding property in Singapore.... again, I wonder how they made these determinations.....

(I wonder who bribed whom to get on the least corrupt list....)

Good to see some socialist countries on there ;)

Well Sweden does have a higher quality of living than the US too...

Yeah - what a paradise. And, with all the suicides going on, I guess there isn't time to engage in much corruption.

Kind of says something about socialism and the hope of man, don't you think?

I know a BUNCH of Swedes that have either already immigrated here or are trying to immigrate here. So much for a "better" standard of living.

Maybe it's because the women don't look good enough. If you're looking for the hope of man talk to a family here where the parents take the kids to Pizza Hut every Tuesday for kids eat free day so that they can have a supper of the crusts.

Why, in my day, crusts were all we had - and we were GRATEFUL! We walked to school barefoot in the snow - uphill - BOTH WAYS!

The world is going to hell in a handbasket.

I was thinking about this stupid list this morning and wondering how they came up with it. The only thing I can think of is that they are talking about internal corruption. In other words, when they are buying, they are not corrupt. I know for a fact that some very large corporations in some of the "least" corrupt nations are famous for bribing foreign officials so again, it must only apply to their internal corruption levels. That is the only way I can see them coming up with their results.

I get drunk and become nostalgic for bad times and then post about it on forums :tng:

And of course they don't give the kids free stuffed crust pizza. Just a regular personal pan.
