No, it's not a stretch at all. ISIS has a specific mission ... to create a caliphate in that region. You're conflating their actually purpose with hatred for us, which does predate ISIS. But shortly after we invaded, the founder of ISIS went into Iraq to gain prominence by aligning himself with Al-Qaeda. in 2006, he declared a caliphate in Iraq. That was the start of ISIS.
